SIMMONS, Eugene, editor; born Hardeman Co., Tenn., Nov. 21, 1887; son of Jas. F. and Mary E. (Sammons) SIMMONS; educated public school at Whiteville, Union University, Jackson, Tenn.; member K. of P.; lived on farm near Whiteville, Tenn.; until 16 years of age when family moved to Whiteville where he entered Jefferson Institute and completed free school course; spent one year at college at Jackson, Tenn.; purchased The News at Whiteville Nov. 1907 and became its editor; Democrat.
