SIMERLY, Nathaniel George Taylor, real estate dealer; born in Carter Co., Tenn., Oct. 3, 1855; German descent; son of Elijah and Mary (Hampton) SIMERLY; father was a farmer; paternal grandparents Jacob and Celia (Grimmstaff) SIMERLY; maternal grandparents Johnson and Elizabeth (Smith) HAMPTON; educated at Jonesboro, Tenn., and Baltimore, Md., in early life was a merchant and a stock dealer, later became interested in real estate; married Mary C. FOLSOM Aug. 24, 1876; member Dashiel No. 238 F. & A.M., Elizabethton, Tenn., Hampton No. 10 I.O.O.F., No. 23 J.O.U.A.M.; Democrat; formerly mayor of Allentown, Tenn., for two terms; through his efforts the Laurel Ford R.R., was built from Elizabethton, Tenn., to State line of N.C.; aided in inducing the Pittsburg Lumber Co., to buy a large tract of timber land, on which their mill and manufacturing plant at Hampton, Tenn., is now being constructed; interested in farming, merchandising, lumber dealing and real estate at Hampton, Tenn.; member of M.E. Church, South.
