SHANNON, James Edward, physician and surgeon; born near Sharon, Tenn., June 23, 1864; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Henry Jefferson and Anna Eliza (Tansil) SHANNON; father, physician and surgeon; paternal grandparents James and Mary (Shannon) SHANNON, maternal grandparents Edward Albert and Caroline (Jenkins) TANSIL; educated in the country schools, Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tenn., and University of Louisville, Ky., graduated from latter, M. D., March 1, 1889; entered practice of medicine in early life; married Frone HARTSFIELD, Jan. 7, 1903; member F. & A. M., K. of P., Weakley Co. (Tenn.) Medical Society, West Tenn Medical Society, Tenn. Medical Society, American Electro Ther. Assn., I. C., and Y. & M. V. R. R. Assn., and American Medical Assn.; served as surgeon Sons of Confederate Veterans, 1902; Democrat; City Alderman and Health Officer Sharon, Tenn., 1901-1902; director and vice-president Weakley Co. Bank, Dresden, Tenn., 1900 to present; director and member of finance committee Bank of Sharon, Tenn., 1907, to present.
