RYAN, Thomas M., banker; born Graves Co., Ky., Feb. 19, 1857; Irish decent [sic]; son of John W. and Ann M. (McAtee) RYAN; father’s occupation, farmer; educated in the country schools of Graves Co., Ky.; in early life worked on farm, later engaged in the leaf tobacco business at Mayfield, Ky.; moved to Martin in 1890, continuing in the leaf tobacco business, with other interests, wheat, cotton, real estate and manufacting [sic] tobacco in name of T. M. Ryan Tobacco Co.; later became Ryan & Hampton Tob. Co., and moved business from Martin, Tenn., to Louisville, Ky.; later retired from that business; president city National Bank, City Lumber Co.; vice-president Weakley Co. (Tenn.) Tel Co.; member of board Hall-Moody Institute, all of Martin Tenn.; married Carrie O. NOWLIN, June 2, 1902; member Masonic Lodge, I. O. O. F., K. P., Elks and Eastern Star; member of Missionary Baptist church; Democrat.
