REID, William H., real estate; born Vicksburg, Miss., Jan. 23, 1863; English descent; son of Luther R. and Minerva Benjamin (Scott) REID; paternal grandparents Alfred and Patsy (Rector) REID, maternal grandparents Benjamin and Martha (Hardaway) SCOTT; educated in public schools of Vicksburg, Miss., and studied two years University of Miss.; in early life he was clerk in a grocery store, and engaged in retail grocery business at Vicksburg, Miss., 1880-1890, under firm name of Stover & Reid, in 1890 he moved to Florence, Ala., and was in gents’ furnishing and clothing business until 1892; from 1892 to 1895 he engaged in the retail shoe business at Waxahachie, Texas, 1895-1902 planter in Sunflower Co., Miss., and since 1902 he has been engaged in the real estate business in Memphis, Tenn., under firm name of W. H. REID; married Mary A. AVENT, July 16, 1890; member Masons (Scottish Rite, Shrine 32d degree), K. of P., Tenn. Club and Chickasaw Club; Democrat; committeeman Democratic executive committee 17th ward of Memphis, Tenn.; former member of Volunteer Southrons of Vicksburg, Miss.; member of Episcopal church.
