POSTON, William F.

POSTON, William F. — attorney at law, born Haywood Co., Tenn., May 12, 1849; Irish descent; son of William T. and Sarah E. (Felts) POSTON; his father was a farmer; received common school education; in early life engaged in clerking in the courts; married Jennie DUFFER Nov. 5, 1872; is an Odd Fellow, Good Templar and K. of H.; Noble Grand in Odd Fellows and Right Worthy Chief Templar of the state for Good Templars; was a member of the Legislature 1879-81, chairman of the Judiciary committee; appointed U.S. District Attorney by President Arthur in 1882; Republican nominee for Congress 1890; delegate to Republican National Convention; 1906 Republican nominee for Court of Chancery Appeals; 1898 Republican nominee for Railroad Commissioner; 1900, nominee of the Evans faction for Governor Tenn.; engaged in the practice of law at Alamo.
