OWNSBY, William Andrew, druggist; born near Hilham, Tenn., Aug. 13, 1867; English descent; son of James Francis and Thursy Evaline (Warthen) OWNSBY; father’s occupation, farmer and minister of the gospel; educated in the public schools of Overton Co., Tenn., and at Bowling Green and Lexington, Ky.; graduated from the Southern Normal College with B. S. degree July 12, 1888, and from the Kentucky University in 1889; began teaching school at the age of 16 and went to Texas in fall of 1889, served as principal of Vernon (Texas) High School for some time; returned to Tenn. in 1893; at present engaged in the drug and grocery business at Hilham, Tenn.; also interested in farming; member K. of P., I. O. O. F. and M. W. of A., has held all the highest offices in local lodges of same; formerly member of Co. School Board of Overton Co., Tenn., three years; chairman of same for two years and has been active in educational work; Socialist.
