LIVERMORE, George Robertson, physician and surgeon; born Memphis, Tenn., Sept. 20, 1878; English-Scotch-Dutch descent; son of Alonzo Skiles and Leila (Robertson) LIVERMORE; father’s occupation, president of Livermore Foundry and Mechanical Co., civil engineer; paternal grandparents Alonzo and Eliza (Brunner) LIVERMORE, maternal grandparents William and Eliza (Marsh) ROBERTSON; he is a direct descendant of Charles ROBERTSON, who commanded a regiment at the Battle of King’s Mountain, and who was one of the first settlers of Tenn.; educated in the public schools of Memphis, Tenn., and Memphis Military Institute and University of Va.; graduated from Memphis (Tenn.) Military Institute, 1896, and University of Va., degree M.D., 1899; in his last college year he served as assistant demonstrator of histology and as a clinical assistant of operative surgery; after graduation he was assistant demonstrator of anatomy, in 1899-1900 at the University of Va.; in 1911 he took special course in hospitals of Berlin, Germany; spent six months lying in hospital in New York City and sixteen months as interne in the General Memorial Hospital, and six months in St. Mary’s Free Hospital for Children, all in New York city; he substituted in the Willard Parker Hospital, the Vanderbilt Clinic, the Good Samaritan Dispensary; in 1902 he worked in the out patient department of Roosevelt Hospital, and served as acting physician in same; he was at one time pathologist to Memphis City Hospital, medical examiner for the Ancient Order of United Workmen and the Tribe of Ben Hur, and in 1908 was vice-president of the Memphis and Shelby Co., Tenn., Medical Society; he is now assistant surgeon at the Lucy Brinkley Hospital of Memphis, Tenn., local chief medical examiner for the Equitable Life Assurance Society of N.Y., medical examiner for the Union Central Life Insurance Co. of Cincinnatti, and the American Central Insurance Co. of Indianapolis, and chief adv. Surgeon of the Standard Accident Insurance Co. of Detroit, Mich.; he is also professor of genito-urinary diseases in medical department of the University of Memphis, Tenn., a member of American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association and Tenn. Medical Assn. and Memphis and Shelby Co. (Tenn.) Medical Society; 18th degree Mason; member of Chickasaw Club, Country Club; nonresident member of Colonade Club, University of Va.; Democrat; captain and assistant surgeon 2nd regiment N.G.S.T., 1906; vice-president Memphis and Shelby Co. Medical Society, 1908; member of Episcopal Church; president of Livermore Foundry and Machine Co., Memphis, Tenn.
