HODGES, Syllus, Edward, lawyer; born Grainger Co., Tenn., Sept. 18, 1881; Irish and Scotch descent; son of James Wiley and Jennie (Needham) HODGES; father’s occupation farmer; graduated of Bachelor of Laws, 1909, Commercial and Shorthand departments Knoxville Business College, also took course in Lincoln Memorial University, Cumberland Gap, Tenn.; began life as clerk in law department of Southern Railway Co., in 1907, in which position he remained while studying law at University of Tenn.; admitted to all State and Federal Courts 1909; made assistant to Division Counsel for Southern Railway Co; stockholder in several business enterprises in Knoxville, Tenn.; Notary Public; attendant of First Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tenn.
