HINKLE, William F., postmaster; born Carrollton, Ky., Oct. 14, 1844; German descent; son of George D. and Lucy (Hawkins) HINKLE; father’s occupation editor; paternal grandparents Samuel and Mary (Dyers) HINKLE; maternal grandfather Thompson HAWKINS; received education at Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, PA.; began his career as a school teacher; engaged in Pharmacy twenty years, retired from business 1909; married Martha J. WHITE; member I. O. O. F. and Masons; Democrat in early life; Republican since 1875; Representative in Tenn. Legislature, 1869, 1871, also 1872-73; postmaster at Saltillo, Tenn.; served as 2d Lieut. 26th Indiana and 1st Lieut. 26th Pa. regiment U. S. A., during Civil war; deacon in Presbyterian church; Republican nominee for congress in 1902.
