HIBBETT, Charles Thomas, physician, surgeon and medical director U. S. Navy; born (near) Castalian Springs, Tenn., November, 1851; son John J. and Nancy (Parker) HIBBETT; Scotch-Irish and English descent; educated Rural Academy, Sumner County, Tenn.; University of Virginia and Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia; graduate University of Virginia 1874 (M. D.); married  Florence WILSON of Petersburg, Va., 1886; officer in U. S. Navy since 1875; Past Assistant Surgeon; Surgeon Medical Inspector U. S. N.; entered U. S. N. 1875 by appointment of President Grant; spent three years on cruise in South American waters; one year on Mediterranean; survivor of the Detroit, 1893, flagship, which was fired on by Brazilian rebels at Rio Janeiro; survivor of Bennington, 1893-97, at Mare Island Navy Yard, 1897-99; Surgeon of Charleston in Philippines, 1899; built and in command of U. S. Naval Hospital Canacao, P. I., 1902-04; built and in command of U. S. Naval Tuberculosis Hospital at Las Animas, Colo., 1907-1909; at present in charge of U. S. Naval Hospital, Norfolk, Va.
