GORE, Denton Lemuel, teacher; born in Smith Co., Tenn., in 1858; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Claborn C. and Elizabeth (Robinson) GORE; father was a farmer; paternal grandparents, Mounce and Rebecca (Simcoe) GORE; maternal grandparents, Allen and Martha (Standford) ROBINSON; educated Masonic Institute, Hartsville, Tenn.; graduated from Peabody College, B. S. degree in 1889; entered the educational work in early life; married twice, first Mary SAMPSON, in 1890, second Willard SAMPSON, in 1910; member I. O. O. F.; Democrat; former Superintendent of Public Instruction in Smith Co., Tenn., and Principal Tenn. School for the Blind at Nashville, 1907-08-09; at present Principal Decaterville (Tenn.) High School; member of Baptist Church.
