FOSTER, Robert Verrell, minister of the gospel, educator; born near Lebanon, Tenn., Aug. 12, 1845; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Rufus H. and Sarah (Spain) FOSTER; father’s occupation stock raiser; graduated from Cumberland University with degree A. B. and A. M.; Union Theological Seminary (N.Y.); Trinity University (Tex.), degree D. D., Washington and Jefferson College, degree L.L. D.; married Belle BRADEN, Nov. 7, 1882; Democrat; member of Fourth Tenn. Cavalry (“Stearnes Fourth”), C. S. A.; author of a volume on “Systematic Theology,” and several other books, also many articles in daily papers, magazines and religious papers; all of his life has been devoted to ministerial and educational work; at present he is professor in Cumberland University, Lebanon, Tenn.; member of Presbyterian church.
