The name Evensville did not exist in 1856. It was called Darwin or Darwin’s Station from the time the railroad came through the area until about 1890. The name change occurred literally “overnight” as evidenced by brochures which promoted activities at a local college. In 1856, I’m not sure if there was a name attached to the area now known as Evensville. Born and raised there.
Thanks Thomas! I wonder if the author wrote Evensville b/c that is what it was called at the time the bio was written and readers would be familiar with it? In any case, it’s good to know the history. Thanks much!
