Mrs. Adelia BATES DICKEY died in Los Angeles, California, January 12th, 1940. She was the widow of the Rev. John P. DICKEY, who was “admitted into the Holston Conference” in 1871, and spent the greater part of his life in preaching and teaching.
Mrs. DICKEY was born August 8th, 1856, near Cleveland, Tennessee in Bradley County. She was married to the Rev. Mr. DICKEY in September 1837. With her husband, she went to Los Angeles, California, in October 1906, and became a widow in 1912. Thenceforth she made her home with her brothers, Clark H. and R. Lee BATES, until their passing. Mrs. DICKEY was very active in religious work, especially in acts of charity. She is survived by a brother, L. W. BATES of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and a sister, Mrs. J. A. STEPHENS of Pikeville, Tennessee. Many of her other relatives are found in the East Tennessee and North Georgia sections. — Mrs. Jane L. BATES
