COOPER, W. D., County Court Clerk, Benton Co., Tenn.; born Big Sandy, Tenn., Dec. 3, 1869; Scotch, Irish and English descent; son of T. D. and L. J. (DeBruce) COOPER; father’s occupation farmer; paternal grandfather John COOPER, paternal grandmother Mary (Fain) COOPER, maternal grandfather Robert DEBRUCE, maternal grandmother Margaret (Buchanan) DEBRUCE; educated common schools and Southern Normal University; graduated from Southern Normal with degree of L. I. in 1892, and in 1897 with degree of B. S.; reared on a farm and worked his way through school by teaching summer schools or public schools for five months of the year to earn money to defray the expenses of his education for the remaining seven months; was principal of the Benton Seminary at Camden, Tenn., from 1898 to 1902; was elected County Court Clerk of Benton Co. 1902, re-elected in 1906, and again in 1910; was admitted to the practice of law in the courts of Kentucky in 1910; member of Masons, Odd Fellows, W. O. W. and M. W. of A.; married Lizzie MCCULLOUGH Dec. 18, 1902; member of Methodist church.
