CLOYD, John Dunwoody, surveyor and farmer; born Mosheim, Tenn., July 8, 1877; Scotch-Irish descent; son of James W. and Mary V. (Dunwoody) CLOYD; fathers’ /sic/ occupation, physician, merchant and farmer; paternal grandparents William and Sarah (Northington) CLOYD; maternal grandparents Adam and Virginia (McSpadin) DUNWOODY; educated Washington College, and Holston College; left school at age of 17 to accept position as surveyor for Wm. E. Uptogrove & Bro., who were timber land owners in mountains of east Tennessee and west North Carolina; married Lula Orilla HARMON, Dec. 26, 1901; member of Nola Chucky Lodge No. 31, K. P.; Republican; Deputy Co. Surveyor, 1894-1902, Co. Surveyor, 1902-1906; Deputy Co. Surveyor, 1906 to present; member of High School Board of Greene Co., Tenn., 1907-1909; interested in mercantile business one year; at present surveying and farming and dealing in all kinds of live stock; member of Lutheran church.
