WEBER, John Langdon, clergyman; born Union S. C., Sept. 25, 1862; English-Dutch descent; son of S. A. and Sarah Alston (Langdon) WEBER; father’s occupation, Doctor of Divinity; paternal grandparents Adam and Margaret (Lander) WEBER, maternal grandparents William J. and Charity Dawson (Alston) LANGDON; educated private schools of S. C., and graduated Wofford College, Spartanburg, S. C., June 12, 1882; received degree of D. D. from Southern University, Ala., and Litt D. Morris-Harvey College, W. Va., June, 1904; in early life engaged in newspaper work as editorial writer, and while managing editor of the Chattanooga Times in 1893 was ordained to the ministry; joined Holston Conference same year; pastor Knoxville, Tenn., Gate City and Big Stone Gap, Va., transferred to Kentucky in 1900 and for six years was president of Kentucky Wesleyan College and was pastor of churches at Winchester and Mt. Sterling, Ky.; in 1909 transferred to Memphis Conference and became pastor of First Methodist church at Jackson, Tenn., which pulpit he now fills; has frequently contributed to magazines and church papers; independent in politics; married Sudie J. YOUNG, Union S. C., Jan. 3, 1888.
