SHERRILL, Samuel W., superintendent of City Schools; born at Maryville, Tenn., Sept. 7, 1869; son of Dr. J. H. and Teckie (Wells) SHERRILL; Scotch-Irish descent; graduate of Maryville College, Maryville, Tenn., May 30, 1892; member of K. of P. and W. O. W.; author “Heroes in Gray” and “Self-Activity;” was Superintendent City Schools of Jonesboro, Tenn., 1892 to 1900; taught at Sweetwater 1900-1901, Carthage, Tenn., 1901-1903, Trenton, Tenn., 1903-1907, and began teaching at Paris 1907; has for a number of years been conductor of the Summer State Institutes for public school teachers; 1911 elected to head of teachers training department in State Normal School at Johnson City, Tenn.
