Obituary
Died at his residence two miles southwest of Como Feburary 25th
1899. Bro. Thomas H. Foster
at the age of 89 years. Bro. Foster was a native of Ashville N.C.
and came to this country many years ago when it was practically a
wilderness. By practicing economy and thrift with honest dealing
he amassed a competency of this worlds goods and about the year 1842
professed faith in Christ and joined the Thompson Creek Baptist Church
where he remained a member till his death.
To portray his many virtues of heart and mind and expess the great loss
to church and community sustained in his death would require a more
facile pen than the writer can command and we shall only attempt an
epitome of his commendable life. At the beginning he laid a
corner ston of truth and love and erected thereon an edifice of
friendship, charity and benevolence and throughout his long and useful
life did not depart therefrom. He was in truth a pillar of the
church a support of society, and his friends were those who knew
him. He was ever ready to extend a helping hand to those in need
and a worthy plea was never refused. He was liberal in his
donations to advance the cause of the master and foremost in every move
for the benefit of his community. Resolved: that in his
death the Church and community has sustained an irreparable loss and
while we mourn with his friends and loved ones in their affliction we
rejoice that he has gone to his reward and wears a crown at the rigt
hand of God. To his grief stricken relatives we would say we come
not to offer idle words of sympathy but to grieve with them over the
loss of one who was dear. May he rest in peace. Resolved
that these resolutions be spread on the Church book and a copy be
furnished the family and the Baptist and Reflector for
publication. done by order of the Church on Saturday before 2nd
Sunday in Mar 1899.
