The fighting part of War was over October, 1781 when British General Cornwallis was forced to surrender at Yorktown, Virginia. Two years later on Sept 3, 1783, The Treaty of Paris made it official, America was Independent. We celebrate our Independence on July 4th, the date on the Declaration of Independence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/RevolutionaryWar.htm\">Revolutionary <strong>SOLDIERS<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>that lived in Weakley County &#8211; after the War<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/RevWar_flags.htm\">FLAGS<\/a><\/strong> of the Revolutionary War<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/Declar_Independence.htm\">The Declaration of Independence<\/a> <\/strong>with signers by the 13 States <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">WAR of 1812 &#8211;  1812-1815<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>War between the U.S. and England <\/em><\/strong>that was caused by the failure of the U.S. to convince Britain to stop restricting Franco-American trade,&nbsp;<strong><em>the impressment of American seamen,<\/em><\/strong> and the seizure of American merchant ships.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/1812War.htm\">WAR of 1812<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; Timeline, Battles, Dolly Madison, Star Spangled Banner song written by Francis Scott Key. Many Tennessee men in the Battle of New Orleans.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Civil War 1861-1865<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The War of Aggression, the War of Rebellion<\/em><\/strong>. Weakley Co., and State of Tennessee voted not to succeed from the Union. There was a second vote. On the second vote, Weakley still voted not to succeed but the State as a whole did. Once Tennessee succeeded, most of Weakley County became Confederate.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A word about the <a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/1870_Census_CW.htm\"><strong>Civil War in WEAKLEY COUNTY<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/cw_gangs_bushwhackers.htm\">BUSHWACKERS<\/a> <\/strong>&amp; Gangs roamed the County<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/cw_army_org.htm\">ORGANIZATION<\/a><\/strong> of the Confederate and Union Armies<\/li><li>Veterans <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/cw_questionnaires.htm\">QUESTIONAIRES<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/cw_obits.htm\">OBITS<\/a> <\/strong>&#8211; Old Confederate and Union Veterans of Weakley Co.<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/cw_confederate.htm\">The CONFEDERATE side<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/weakleytn\/cw_union.htm\">The UNION side<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">World War I 1917-1918<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Known as the Great War, the War to end all wars.<\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>America&#8217;s last known WWI Veteran, Corporal Frank Buckles, passed away Feb 27, 2011 at the age of 110.<\/em><\/strong> <em>He enlisted at the age of 16, convincing an Army Captain he was older. He was the last living &#8220;Doughboy&#8221; to have served in France, one of the 4.7 million U.S. troops who enlisted to fight Germany. It ended with Japan surrendering on September 1945.
