BATTE BIBLE RECORD<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Submitted by Mrs. O. Frankia STORY, Meeker, OK 74855-0607<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. STORY writes, &#8220;I now have the <strong>BATTE\/BATT<\/strong>\u2019s Old Family Bible. It is in bad shape. It belonged to my great-grandfather, Augustus M. <strong>BATTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bible\u2019s long journey &#8211; Augustus<strong> BATTE<\/strong> brought it from Wayne County, TN to Wayne County, IL in the early 1870&#8217;s. My grandfather W. T. (William Thomas) brought it to Lincoln County, OK in the fall of 1898. W. T.\u2019s oldest daughter, Lillie <strong>CHILCOTE<\/strong> took it to Bakersfield, CA in the early 1950&#8217;s. After her death, her daughter Gwen<strong> HUBBS<\/strong> of Los Angeles got the Bible. In October of 1997, the Bible was given to me at a <strong>BATTE\/BATT<\/strong> reunion at the Old Batte Homestead &#8211; a farm that has remained in the Batte family since the fall of 1898. The farm is now owned by Bill and Buddy <strong>BATT<\/strong>.
