Ray Cemetery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">LOCATION: The &#8220;RAY&#8221; Cemetery is located on a hill overlooking the old Tom S. RAY homeplace. There are two RAY Cemeteries; one is called the Ray Cemetery (West) and the other is called the Ray Cemetery (East). This listing is the west cemetery. Most of these listed are in some way related to the RAY family, either directly or indirectly. The old farm is now owned by T. B. GARTH.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Ray, William<\/strong>, 22 Dec 1805 &#8211; 19 July 1885, son of Hezekiah Ray who was born in South <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Carolina. William was also born in South Carolina and he is the father of Tom S. Ray.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Ray, Rebecca Jane Mitchell<\/strong> 25 October 1846 &#8211; 7 July 1888. Daughter of Grief and Catherine <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Morris Mitchell She was the first wife of Tom S. Ray.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> McCollum, Sarah M<\/strong>., 30 October 1863 &#8211; 29 May 1890. Wife of J. F. McCollom. She <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">was the daughter of John A. and Ana Tamar Cole Talley. John A. Talley was the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">son of George H. and Nancy S. Cypert Talley who moved to Iowa in 1848. Ana<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Tamar Cole Talley was the daughter of Bennett and Nancy Kerwin Cole.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> McCollum, Infant<\/strong>, born and died 21 May 1890. child of Sarah and J. F. McColllum who <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">was born dead. Sarah M. Talley McCollum died as a result of complications from this <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">birth.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Smith, Mary Anne<\/strong>, 5 May 1883 &#8211; 15 Augus 1894, daughter of J. C. and N. Smith.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Dicus, Iona S.,<\/strong> 1870 &#8211; 16 June 1895, daughter of Andrew and Emily McMillan Cole, wife o<\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">f William Porter Dicus.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Prince, Mary E. Crews<\/strong>, 1852 &#8211; 16 Nov 1896, wife of John Prince.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Prince, infant<\/strong>. Evidently died at birth. Probably the child of Mary and they both died at or about <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">the same time.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Bundrant, Keren Happock,<\/strong> 27 March 1843 &#8211; 4 April 1897. Daughter of John and Sarah Lynn <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">McMillan. She first married John A. Melson. They had one son, John F. Melson. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Later she married John W. Bundrant; they also had one son: William Bundrant.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Ray, Tamer Cole,<\/strong> 22 May 1866 &#8211; 26 December 1898. Daughter of Andrew and Emily Cole. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Second wife of Tom S. Ray; mother of Willie and Vera Ray. Tamer died as a result of a <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">typhoid epidemic. Ironically, her brother, John Bennett Cole, died from the same epidemic.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Cole, John Bennett<\/strong>, 12 November 1876 &#8211; 18 November 1899. Son of Andrew and Emily <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Cole; brother of Tamer Cole Ray. Supposedly died the same year as his sister, but <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">tombstone has different date.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Dicus, Willie Cole<\/strong>, 15 March 1894 &#8211; 5 November 1899, son of W. P. and Iona Cole Dicus. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Probably a victim of the same typhoid epidemic.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Cole, Andrew,<\/strong> 24 March 1837 &#8211; 18 September 1902, son of Bennett and Nancy Kerwin <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Cole, husband of Emily McMillan Cole.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Melson, Jennie Ray<\/strong>, 1 January 1874 &#8211; 12 October 1906, daughter of Tom and <strong>Rebecca <\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Mitchell Ray<\/strong>; wife of John Franklin Melson; mother of Keren and Frankie <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Melson.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Ray, Tom S.,<\/strong> 20 February 1834 &#8211; 17 February 1908, Son of William Ray, husband of three <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">wives.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Lutts, Rebecca Ray<\/strong>, July 1836 &#8211; 29 May 1909, Daughter of\u00a0William and Rhoda Huckaba;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">\u00a0wife of Adam Lutts; mother of Mary J. Lutts (Lutts is often spelled Loots)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Ray, Elizabeth Wells<\/strong> 13 Sep 1847 &#8211; 26 November 1914, third wife of Tom S. Ray; from Olive <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Hill area. She first married a Mr. Fleming.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Bundrant, John W.,<\/strong> 3 March 1840 &#8211; 21 August 1916, second husband of Keren<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">McMillan Melson; they had one son, William Bundrant.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Cole, Emily McMillan<\/strong>, 1 October 1838 &#8211; 2 September 1917. daughter of John and Sarah <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Lynn McMillan; wife of Andrew Cole.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Melson, Nannie Beckham<\/strong>, 12 December 1881 &#8211; 9 November 1917, second wife of John <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Franklin Melson. They had one son, William. She died a short time after the birth of the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">child; the child died soon after her death.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Melson, William<\/strong>, 21 May 1917 &#8211; 24 Feb 1918, child mentioned above.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Lynn, Emily<\/strong>, 3 April 1890 &#8211; 28 Dec 1920, wife of George A. Lynn. Granddaughter of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">Andrew and Emily McMillan Cole, daughter of Pogue and Fanny Cole.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\"><strong> Lynn, George A.,<\/strong> 19 September 1876 &#8211; 10 July 1932. Husband of Emily Lynn; son of J. C.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: times new roman,times;font-size: 12pt\">\u00a0and M. A. Lynn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">There are a few graves that are identified by native stone only. On one there appears to be the name CLAY.
