Woodard/Dial Cemetery

A sign at the road going to this cemetery has the following information:
Woodard Dial Cemetery
Established 1885

The Woodard/Dial Cemetery is located in the West Point Quadrangle. To reach the cemetery, turn east off the Natchez Trace Parkway onto Glen Rock Road aka Factory Creek Road. Turn off the parkway just south of the Lower Glenrock rest area. Travel 1 mile and turn right. Following Factory Creek Road, travel 2 miles and turn right onto a narrow road up a hill. Travel .2 miles and the cemetery is on the right beside the road. This cemetery has previously been known as the Dial Cemetery. However, the sign implies that it is the Woodard/Dial Cemetery. There are three graves here marked only with fieldstones.

According to testimony given by Mrs. Harmon (Hiram) Lakey in Chancery Court case #1086 entitled, “Lonnie Tilley, et. al. vs., The Tenn. Valley Iron and R.R. Company”. Mr. J.W. Darnell, “a Bushwacker” was found dead one morning at the Lakey gate on the old Waynesboro-Florence Road. Because they feared retribution from other bushwackers they buried Mr. Darnell on the south side of the road. His date of death was 1864-5.

Old Darby Cemetery #221

The cemetery is supposedly located on the ridge behind the old Darby House on the west side of the Natchez Trace Parkway, between Big Cypress Road and Cooper Branch Road. It is believe that this is the cemetery where William Blasingame is buried. William Blasingame was born 1784 and died after 1880. He was a veteran of the War of 1812. According to C. R. Blasingame in Cibola, Texas, William Blasingame does have a tombstone and there are several others in the cemetery. So far we have been unable to locate this cemetery.
