PERRY, Jesse Newton, served in World War I during 1917 to 1919. He was in the Army and served overseas in France and Germany. He was wounded in service; was shot in the foot.

Jesse was born 3 April 1888, the only son with three sisters, of Franklin and Rebecca PERRY. His father, Franklin PERRY was born 27 April 1853 and died 18 January 1932. On 3 January 1883, he married Rebecca FRANKS. She was born 20 June 1852 and died 21 August 1924. Jesse’s sisters were Lizzie Virginia PERRY STRICKLIN (5 Feb 1884 – 8 Dec 1963); Minnie Caldona PERRY FRANKS (17 Sep 1889 – ); and Letha Mearl PERRY WHITSETT (24 March 1901 – 29 June 1973).

After the war, Jesse returned home to the Lutts Community and in the early 1920’s he met and married Effie Ozella WHITE who was born 2 November 1886. She was the daughter of Nick WHITE of White’s Creek. They had four children.

1. Jesse N. PERRY, Jr., born 28 June 1923 and died 2 Oct 1977. He married Dorothy HOLT in 1949 in Wayne County, Tennessee and they have five living children and two who died. They lived most of their life in Wayne County, Tennessee. Their children: Roy Ike PERRY (deceased), Brenda PERRY, Jane Evelyn PERRY, a baby boy who died at age 2 days, Johnny Ray PERRY, Donna PERRY, and Anthony PERRY.

2. Grady Frank PERRY, was born 17 Feb 1926. He married on 4 Sep 1951 to Shirly HOUSER from Bristol, Tennessee. Shirly was born 3 Nov 1930. They have two sons and have lived all their married life in Bristol, Tennessee. Children:

1. Grady Frank PERRY, Jr., born 15 July 1952, married Debbie STINE June 1970 and their have two children: Natasha PERRY, b. 14 Feb 1971 who married Mike Willis in June 1990; and Joshua Franklin PERRY born 9 Dec 1976.
2. Gregory Mark PERRY, born 24 Jan 1957, married 27 Aug 1977 to Reva Geannette KENNEDY. Gregory and Reva had two children: Christenna Michelle PERRY, born 10 March 1979 and Stephanie Starr PERRY born 30 July 1983.

3. Annie Line PERRY, born 23 Oct 1927. She married Virgil FLATT on 29 Jan 1947. Virgil was born 31 Aug 1919 and died 12 Nov 1976.. They have one daughter and a son. She is now married to Bill TILLMAN and lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Children:

1. Carolyn Sue FLATT born 25 Sep 1955, married Donnell RICKETTS, Jr on 14 Jun 1974. They have a daughter Wendy Nicole RICKETTS born 21 Jan 1982.
2. Larry Wayne FLATT, born 3 June 1959.

4. Nickie L. PERRY, born 19 Dec 1930. She married Roy Earl RICH from Wayne County on 5 April 1949. Roy was born 15 Sep 1923. They have two daughters and lived and raised their children in Mishawaka, Indiana. In 1978, they moved to Live Oak, Florida. Children:

1. Linda Faye RICH, born 21 July 1950 married Robert James KOHLER on 10 Aug 1968. Their children are Robert James KOHLER, Jr., born 17 Jan 1972 and Mandi LaNai KOHLER born 6 Dec 1975. Linda lives in Indiana.
2. Carol Rose RICH, born 31 Oct 1952, married Larry Lane. They had two children: Casity Lanaee LANE born 30 June 1976, and Kasey Christfor LANE,born 22 Sep 1978. Carol and family live in Orlando, Florida.

Jesse Newton PERRY, Sr, died at the age of 73, on a Friday afternoon, 15 Sep 1961 in Western State Hospital in Bolivar, Tennessee after a long illness.

Jesse lived most of his life in the Lutts Community. He was a farmer and raised his children there. In 1956, his health started getting bad, he sold the farm and moved to Savannah, Tennessee. His wife, Ozella, died less than a year after him on 27 July 1962. They are both at rest in the Lutts Cemetery.
