Remarks: perished on board steamer “Sultana” on 27 April 1865, a paroled prisoner of war. Casualty Sheet: certified by Bvt. Lt. Col. J. J. WOODWARD asst. Surgeon, USS date of death 27 April 1865, remarks “The steamer ‘Sultana’ was lost on the Mississippi River about 9 miles above Memphis Tennessee about 2 O’clock A.M. April 27 1865, by the explosion of her boilers.” Memorandum of Prisoner of War Records – admitted to hospital at Parole Camp near Vicksburg MS 10 April 1865. Returned to duty 16 Apr 1865.

LANCASTER, William J. – LANCASTER, William J. – Enrolled at Linden, TN from Hickman Co., TN. Reported 25 Aug 1864, died in hospital at Nashville, TN of wounds. Remarks: died in Hospital No. 1 25 Aug 1864 of gun shot fracture of upper third of right tibia. Record of Death and Interment: No. 686 buried 9190 Nashville City Cemetery. Hospital No. 8242 – Resided Centerville, Hickman Co.,TN, wife Leina LANCASTER. Soldier died at 22 years old of gunshot fracture of upper third of right tetiea. Died and buried 25 Aug 1864.
