HAGGARD, John S. – HAGGARD, John S. – reported captured by Rebels near Hampshire, Maury Co., TN on 1 Oct 1864. Notation Adjutant General’s Office War Department 10 Sep 1883 “Captured as a member of Co. A 48thTennessee Infantry (Rebels) near Kingston, NC 10 Mar 1865. In confinement at Point Lookout arriving 16 Mar 1865, released on oath of allegiance 13 May 1865. Application to take oath of allegiance dated 9 Apr 65 states he was captured by rebels who put him in the 48th Tennessee Infantry Co A.” Prisoner of War record – nothing further.

DICUS, James – DICUS, James – Captured near Hampshire, Maury Co.,TN on 1 Oct 64. POW record: Paroled at Vicksburg on or about 21 April 1865, survived the Sultana disaster 27 April 1865 – reported to CCO 3 May 1865, sent to provost marshall.

GRIMES, John M. – GRIMES, John M. – captured near Centreville, Hickman Co., TN on 29 Sep 1864. POW record is confusing. Reported received at Vicksburg 29 April 1865 – reported at Benton Beach MO on 27 April 1865. Sent to Camp Chase OH 14 May 1865, but reported perished on Sultana 27 April 1865? 27 April 1865 sent from Jefferson Barracks MO to US General Hospital at Camp Chase, OH. Also reported paroled at Vicksburg 30 Mar 1865, reported to Benton Beach MO 27 April 1865, transferred to Camp Chase Ohio 14 May 1865. Also reported on 24 April 1865 sent from Jefferson Barracks MO General Hospital to Benton Beach, MO.

THEAGMUETEN, Jas. C. – THROGMORTON, John C. Captured near Hampshire, Maury Co., TN on 1 Oct 1865. Reported on roster 26 June 1864, died at Nashville. However, notation on record by War Department shows that he was received at Vicksburg 29 April 1865 as paroled POW and sent to Benton Barracks MO, admitted to Cumberland General Hospital 3 July 1865 and died 26 July 1865 of acute dysentery. POW Records show that he perished on the Sultana on 27 April 1865. Record of death and interment: Grave No. 142526 in City Cemetery, Hospital No. 17729 Cumberland General Hospital. Solder resided in Wayne Co. TN was married and died of acute dysentery at 45 years. Wife Berina of Waynesboro. Died and buried 26 July 1865. Widow notified 31 July 1865.

HALE, Bennett – HALE, Bennett, reported 17 Sep 1864 died of typhoid fever in Wayne Co. [editor’s note: widow received pension #172,622]

HAINES, David M. – HANES, David M. – 18 Dec 1864 died at Louisville, KY of typhoid fever. Record of Death and Interment: No & locality of grave: No. 24 rg. 60, Cave Hill Cemetery. Soldier married to Fanny Hayes, Waynesboro, Wayne Co TN. Died of typhoid fever, died and buried 18 – 19 Dec 1864.

Paroled at Jacksonville, FL on 28 April 1865, admitted to hospital as paroled prisoner from Jacksonville, FL on 9 May 1865, still in hospital on 31 May 1865, died in General Hospital, Hilton Head, SC on 3 June 1865. Record of Death and Interment: a paroled prisoner from Andersonville, GA. Buried at grave 571 Military Cemetery at Hilton Head SC, Hospital #6753. Father: Louis CHANEY of Flowersville, Decatur Co.,TN. Solder died at age 27 on 2 Jun 1865, buried 3 June 1865.

McMURRY, Robert L. – McMURRY, Robert L. – reported captured by Rebels in Decatur Co., TN on 21 June 1864.

ANDERSON, August J. – ANDERSON, Augustus J. – reported deserted from Clifton, TN on 20 July 1864. Reported died of disease at Clifton, Tennessee on 3 April 1865. Notation: Charge of desertion removed. The soldier was restored to duty without trial or loss of pay or allowances it appears he was absent from proper cause. He absented himself from regiment with permission from Lt. Col. Commanding regiment on account of sickness; rejoined regiment and was again taken sick when his commanding officer again started him home, and he died April 25 1865 on his way home.
