Information used with the permission of Lorraine Bennett Rae.<br \/>\nFrom volume 2, page 324 \u2013 entry WCCL<br \/>\n<em>\u201cHAMPTON \u2013 6 mi N of Jonesboro on the Seth Smith farm.\u00a0 Established in 1820 and discontinued about the same time.\u00a0 There are two graves near the old house.\u00a0 This was on the old Thomas Bacon plantation.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\nKen Saylor currently owns what was the Seth Smith farm, located on Dean Archer Road.\u00a0 He took me to a small burial ground on top of a small ridge on the west side of Dean Archer.\u00a0 This is within tax parcel 035-018.00\u00a0 The Seth Smith homeplace was just east of this burial ground, on the east side of the Dean Archer Road \u2013 It was burned many years ago and a singlewide sits there now.\u00a0 Ken remembered when a large old tree was at the burial ground location.<br \/>\n<strong>GPS Location<\/strong>: +36-21.545N, -082-30.400W<br \/>\n<strong>LOCATION<\/strong> \u2013 Dean Archer Road, Jonesborough.<br \/>\n<strong>DEEDS<\/strong> \u2013 Deed Book 49, Page 511 (1886) conveys from Jesse Bacon to his daughter, Nancy Jane Bacon Smith (wife of Seth) about 141 acres.\u00a0 Jesse had inherited the land from Thomas, who died in 1871.<br \/>\nDeed succession is not perfectly clear, however, in 1853 Hiram Hampton conveyed about 41 acres to Thomas Bacon.<br \/>\nI have not been able to connect any David Durham\/Denham\/Dunham to this property or to Hiram Hampton (born circa 1811) \u2013 however, Hiram Hampton\u2019s wife was Sarah Duncan.\u00a0 I have not been able to determine any \u201cD\u201d Duncans yet.<br \/>\nIt seems reasonable to believe the CMB data, and that this burial ground is the Hampton burial ground, but it may have been established by Sarah Duncan\u2019s family, a generation before Hiram Hampton.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BURIALS<\/strong> \u2013 I found two graves, with head and foot limestone markers.\u00a0 I also found a third limestone marker, which Ken stated was leaning against the tree, albeit 40 years ago or so.\u00a0 That marker clearly has a \u201cD D\u201d written on it.\u00a0 Ken was not completely certain, but he thought he recalled someone saying that the D D marker was for one David Durham many years ago.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9383\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/washington\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Hampton-Smith-View-002-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9383\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9383\" src=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/washington\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Hampton-Smith-View-002-1-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"HAMPTON CEMETERY\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/washington\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Hampton-Smith-View-002-1-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/washington\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Hampton-Smith-View-002-1.jpg 821w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9383\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">HAMPTON CEMETERY<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Surveyed, transcribed and donated to the Washington County TNGen Web August 2015 by Gordon M.
