NOTE:<\/strong>\u00a0 11 January 2022 a petition was filed in Chancery Court for Washington County, Tennessee at Jonesborough to have the remains moved to Fairview Cemetery, State Route 81N, Jonesborough, Tennessee. It is also referred to as the Foister Cemetery.<\/p>\n

Lewis A Markwood (18 Jan 1802 \u2013 21 Oct 1895 is probably buried here. His obituary says he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M.V. Middleton and is buried at the family graveyard about 3 miles S of Jonesboro. Markwood served as a Drummer in the War of 1812, a Private in the Mexican War, and a Lieut. US Army, CO H 8<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/sup><\/span> Tenn Cav in the Civil War. He was married (1) Sarah Isabelle Deakins, 3 Jun 1835 and (2) Lucinda Gilbert, 6 December 1865. His daughter, Mary V. m. Tarlton A. Middleton on 6 Dec 1865. Other children were: Cassandra L. m. Cephas Stone 10 Oct 1867; Sarah Lewis m. Jacob Carr 4 Jan 1870; James L. m. E.A. Nelson 26 Mar 1879; Calvin H. m. Fanny Piper 14 May 1874; and Daniel D. m. Susan King 18 Mar 1857.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
