His obituary says he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M.V. Middleton and is buried at the family graveyard about 3 miles S of Jonesboro. Markwood served as a Drummer in the War of 1812, a Private in the Mexican War, and a Lieut. US Army, CO H 8<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><sup><span style=\"font-size: large;\">th<\/span><\/sup><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"> Tenn Cav in the Civil War. He was married (1) Sarah Isabelle Deakins, 3 Jun 1835 and (2) Lucinda Gilbert, 6 December 1865. His daughter, Mary V. m. Tarlton A. Middleton on 6 Dec 1865. Other children were: Cassandra L. m. Cephas Stone 10 Oct 1867; Sarah Lewis m. Jacob Carr 4 Jan 1870; James L. m. E.A. Nelson 26 Mar 1879; Calvin H. m. Fanny Piper 14 May 1874; and Daniel D. m.
