This cemetery was located on the grounds of the Johnson City Medical Center, 400 State of Franklin Rd., Johnson City, TN. The graves were moved November 20, 1992 by Appalachian Funeral Home to Roselawn Memory Gardens, Erwin Highway, Johnson City, TN. Remains in Old Graveyard Excavated to be Reinterred<\/b> by John Newland.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Human remains that lay abandoned for decades are being moved from a forgotten graveyard on Johnson City Medical Center Hospital Property.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Workers from Appalachian-Hartman Funeral Home and a local construction company on Thursday began excavating the cemetery, where there hasn’t been a burial in more than 40 years.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When all the remains are recovered, they will be reinterred at Roselawn Memory Gardens.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“We expect to find 12 to 15 people,” said Randy Cook the hospital’s associate administrator of support services.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“But all the information we have is based on hearsay. There’s no documentation. It’s not written down who all is buried there and where.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The only body tentatively identified is that of Charles E. Love, whose grave marker was found intact. According to the marker, Love lived from 1871 to 1942.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

After talking to an elderly woman whose house is next to the cemetery, hospital officials have come to the conclusion other family names could be found at the site, but the markers are no longer present.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

“There is a Garland family whose people are buried here, and maybe a couple of others,” said Chuck Bowman, owner of Appalachian-Hartman and supervisor of the dig.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Campbell, who was mysteriously killed or murdered at Kenova, W. Va., last Friday reached the City Saturday night… The remains were buried in the Love Cemetery at 12 o’clock on Monday.<\/p>\n

Note:<\/strong>\u00a0 Nat R. Campbell is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Johnson City, Tennessee.<\/p>\n

* There has been a small private cemetery across the Old Jonesborough-Johnson City highway from the Onks Cemetery. Dessie Simmons has an eyewitness account of the funeral of one person buried there. Other burials are unknown.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hezekiah Little, 1847 – April 13, 1915, youngest son of John & Ruth Boring Little. His wife, Elizabeth Williams, 1860-Aug 9, 1919 is thought to be buried here also.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
