{"id":419,"date":"2013-06-04T22:24:53","date_gmt":"2013-06-04T22:24:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/warren\/?p=419"},"modified":"2013-05-19T22:25:21","modified_gmt":"2013-05-19T22:25:21","slug":"barnes-charles-edward-d-1953","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/warren\/barnes-charles-edward-d-1953\/","title":{"rendered":"BARNES, Charles Edward (d.1953)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Gunshot Wound Is Fatal To Veteran<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A gunshot wound, self-inflicted at his home near Viola Monday night, proved fatal to <strong>Charles Edward Barnes<\/strong>, 31, farmer and World War II veteran.\u00a0 He died Thursday at 11; 45 a.m. at Thayer VA hospital, Nashville, where he was rushed following the shooting.\u00a0 Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o\u2019clock at Old Jefferson Baptist Church in DeKalb county.\u00a0 <strong>Rev. Rayton Cope<\/strong> officiated and burial was in Old Jefferson cemetery.\u00a0 <strong>Mr. Barnes<\/strong>, native of\u00a0 DeKalb county was a son of <strong>Mrs. Girtha Jones Barnes<\/strong> and the late <strong>Will H. Barnes<\/strong> and he was educated in the public schools of his native county.\u00a0 He moved with his family to Warren county several years ago and during World War II he served with the Army in the pacific theater of operations. He was a member of American Legion post 173 and VFW Post 5064 here and was also a member of the Baptist Church.\u00a0 For the past few years he had resided and operated a farm on the Hillsboro Road near Viola.\u00a0 Survivors include his wife, <strong>Mrs. Maudell Melton Barnes<\/strong>, a son, <strong>Ricky<\/strong>, and a daughter, <strong>Ginger<\/strong>, all of Viola; his mother, who resides at Jessie; three brothers, <strong>Roscoe B. Barnes<\/strong>, commander of VFW Post 5064, <strong>Cordell and Billy Jack Barnes<\/strong>, McMinnville; four sisters, <strong>Mrs. Marie Rugsby<\/strong>, Smithville, <strong>Mrs. Cleo Cantrell<\/strong>, McMinnville, <strong>Mrs. Bobby Warren<\/strong> and <strong>Mrs. Lucille Allen<\/strong>, both of Chattanooga.
