Dr. Johnson has moved to Warren.

Painville, Feb 8. –

     Bill Hillis and Miss Wavie Hillis were united in marriage, last Sunday at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Ella Payne, Elder W.R. Payne, pastor of the Christian Church, officiating. The groom is a son of Coy Hillis and the bride a daughter of L.H. Hillis. Both young people are well known and quite popular. We join numerous friends in wishing them much happiness and prosperity.
     Walter Hillis and sister, Miss Pearl, made a trip to town last week.
     Nelson Gilley, postmaster at this place, visited at M. Johnson’s last Sunday.
     Kosa Hillis, Jr. sold a fine mule last week, the valuation being $165.00.
     Jim Jones of Shellsford, who is running a saw mill near Laurelburg, will soon have his work completed.
     Jot Martin, of Pleasant Cove section, was in this vicinity last week.
     Miss Nellie Moffitt, of Plain-view, was the guest of Miss Mary Lou Johnson Thursday.
     John Hillis gave the young peo-ple an entertainment last Saturday night, which was enjoyed by all present.
     Walter Hillis and brothers and M. Johnson who are turning corn land in partnership will soon have their turning completed and ready for planting.
     T.C. Grissom, of Safley, passed through our burg last week.

     David L. Haston, 90, Spencer, died August 14.

August 28, 1936
     Miss Pauline Horn, 17, Spencer, fatally injured in fall from truck on visit to Chattanooga.

     Mrs. Mattie Lee Price and children of this place visited Mrs. Price of Doyle, last weekend.
     Miss Willie Haston of Cane Creek spent Wednesday night with Miss Sue Good of Bone Cave.
     The Sunday school at Sparkman is progressing nicely. Everyone is invited to attend.
     Willard Cole gave the young folks a candy making Saturday night in honor of James Moore of the CCC camp, who is visiting his parents.
     Miss Mary and Casteen Moore had as their dinner guests Sunday, Miss Audra and Edna Rowland, Willard Cole and Edd Cunningham.
     We are sorry to learn of the death of the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George McGregor. The family has our sympathy.
     Mr. and Mrs. J.L. McCoy spent Saturday night with his sister, Mrs. Annie Madewell, near Leamont.
     John Witt and Walter Cole spent Sunday afternoon with W.H. Moore.
     Miss Audra and Edwina Rowland spent Tuesday morning with Mrs. Kenneth Slatton.
     Miss Silverree McCoy and Iva Cunningham spent Monday night with Mrs. Iva Chandler.
     Mrs. Pearl Sparkman and little son, W.C., of near Oakland, spent part of last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.B. Dodson.
     Miss Mary Katherine Drake of Rock Island spent part of last week with her mother, Mrs. Ernest Roberts.
     James Moore has returned to the CCC camp, after a few days' visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Moore.

     Leonard Hitchcock and family have moved to Sam Hitchcock's place in Laurel Cove.
     Lula Measles is reported ill.

     Lorene Bryant is staying with her sister, Mrs. R.J. Grissom in Laurel Cove.
     Melvin Reece has returned back to his home in Huntsville, Ala.
     Aunt Nancy Passons is quite ill.
     Mrs. Laura Grissom, Julia Hitchcock and children visited at Mrs. G.C. Simons' last Wednesday.
     Geneva Grissom spent Christmas week with her uncle, John Grissom, and family of Campaign.
     Mrs. Sam Bryant visited Mrs. Robert Bryant and family Thursday night and Friday.
     James Lloyd Grissom visited at G.C. Simons last Saturday.

     Mrs. Charlie Moore, Mrs. Claud Deaton and children visited Mrs. Florence Brady Friday afternoon.

     Gilbert Grissom of Spencer is spending the week with her grandmother, Mrs. Thula Austin.

     J. S. Templeton of Spencer delivered an interesting sermon on "Judging" at the Harmony Church of Christ on Lord's Day morning.
     Mrs. Earl Madewell is improving.
     Mrs. Stella Worthington of McMinnville is visiting Mr. and Mrs. John Worthington.
     Mr. and Mrs. Doran McCoy visited Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Haley Friday night.
     Mrs. Julia Johnson, who has been suffering from high blood pressure for several weeks, shows no improvement.
     Cecil Baldwin returned to his work in Chattanooga Monday of last week.
     Wiley George has moved into a tenant house of Pearl Shockley's.
     Mrs. Esta Hitchcock of Bone Cave visited her daughter, Mrs. Cecil Baldwin, this weekend.
     Mrs. Clyde Barnette is greatly improved.
     Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Walling visited his father, J.M. Walling and Mrs. Walling recently.
     Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Hale and daughter Carolyn visited Mr. Hale's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hale, Sunday.
     Mrs. Vida Shockley is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Irving Hillis, and family.
     Mr. and Mrs. Roy Phifer and son, Jon Winston, recently visited Mr. Phifer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Phifer of near Sparta, both of whom are ill with high blood pressure and diabetes.
     Will McCoy is erecting a new dwelling near the Baptist church.
     Earl Moody and family were Sunday afternoon guests of Irving Hillis and family.
     Dalton Delon and family have had flu the past week.
     Mrs. J.M. Walling is on the sick list.
