John W. Cole, 80,
Dies at His Home Funeral services were held at the Lost Creek Methodist Church of which he was a member, conducted by the Rev Bleming of Doyle, in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives. Mr. Cole had many friends and was loved by everyone. He was a devoted husband and father. He owned one of the largest farms in his community and was a very successful farmer and one of the eldest citizens of White County, having lived here all his life. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Beecher Wallace and Miss Elizabeth Cole of the Lost Creek community. He had several brothers and sisters who live away from here... The victim, Fred Shockley, 29, was instantly killed when he was shot through the heart at 5 o'clock with a .22 caliber pistol bullet. According to Sheriff Toy Taylor, Charles Dodson, 19, admitted firing the fatal shot, but blamed George Scott, 24, with starting the trouble. Both Scott and Dodson are held at the jail charged with first degree murder. Dodson said he shot Shockley, his brother-in-law, in self-defense, when...[illegible] |
