YATES, Frank (1886-1942)
Frank Yates, 56, of Van Buren county, died in a local hospital Wednesday of last week. Death was caused by typhoid fever which several other members of the family are now confined to their beds. Funeral services were conducted at the graveside in the Yates cemetery by John W. High at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. He was born in Van Buren county February 5, 1886. He was a son of the late Tom and Maggie Madewell Yates. He is survived by his widow, seven children, four brothers and one sister. The arrangements were by High Funeral company.

YATES, John Taylor (1890-1945)John Yates Dies of Wounds; Wife Held
John Taylor Yates, 55-year-old Van Buren county farmer, died in the Medical Clinic and Hospital here at 7 o'clock Thursday night of last week. Death was due to injuries received when he was alleged to have been struck in the head by an axe in the hands of his wife, Novella Johnson Yates, 54, as he lay in his bed at his home. Examination of the body showed that Yates received four wounds in the head and face, all with the Exception of one, being of a minor nature. A wound across the entire right side of the head penetrated the brain. Yates was brought to the local hospital after receiving the injuries where he died six days later. After Yates received the wounds Mrs. Yates was arrested on a warrant charging felonious assault and brought to the Warren county jail by Sheriff Smith of Van Buren County. She was later released under a bond of $3,000. Besides his widow, Yates is survived by seven sons, Ernest Yates of Kansas City, Leeton Yates and Rayburn Yates of the United States Army, James Yates, Robert Yates, Carl Yates and Clarence Yates of Van Buren county; three daughters, Mrs. Clifford Measles and Miss Melba Yates and Kathleen Yates of Van Buren county; his mother, Mrs. Betty Martin; and a half-brother, Aaron Martin. The funeral was held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the residence with John W. High officiating. Burial was in the McElroy cemetery in Van Buren county. Pallbearers were Robert Winstead, John Witt, Walter Measles, Daddy Measles, Will Luna, and Elbert Acuff. Arrangements by the High Funeral company.Southern Standard Friday Oct. 26, 1945, p. 1.

YATES, Novella D. Johnson (1892 - 1972)Novella D. Yates, 79-year-old Van Buren County native, succumbed to a lingering illness Sunday Jan. 9, at 12:15 p.m. at Warren County General Hospital. A member of the Baptist Church, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Fannie Tosh Johnson, and was preceded in death by her husband John T. Yates in 1945. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. J. L. Bouldin and Mrs. Sewell Barnes, both of McMinnville, and Mrs. Audrey Measles, Sparta; seven sons, James Yates, Rock Island, Ernest Yates, Kansas City, Mo., Leton and Robert Yates, Oak Harbor, Washington, Clarence Yates, Birmingham, Ala., Carl Yates, Snohomish, Washington, Rayborn Yates, Spencer; a sister, Mrs. Nancy Hale, McMinnville; 32 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. funeral services for Tuesday Jan. 11, at 3 p.m., at High's Chapel with John W. High officiating, and burial to follow at Laurel Creek Cemetery. High's Inc., in charge of arrangements.

Yates, a teacher at Lincoln County School, was born January 16, 1959 in White Co to Donald Warren Carter and Pearl Swindell McCoy. Services were held Saturday at Gumspring Baptist Church with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Tony Wison officiated. Survivors include husband Jerry Lynn Yates of Fayetteville TN; one daughter, Amanda Nicole Yates of Fayetteville, TN; one son, Kevin Lynn Yates of Fayetteville TN; mother Pearl Carter McCoy of Walling, TN; two brothers, Philip Carter of Rock Island, TN and Dwight Carter of Walling, TN; one sister, Cindy Martin of Rock Island, TN; one niece, six nephews. Father Donald Warren Carter preceded her in death. Hunter Funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.

Stricken with an apparent heart attack Sunday, Bone Cave resident Mrs. Velma Clytie Bouldin Yates, 68, was dead on arrival at Warren Regional Hospital at 12:30 p.m. A member of Harmony Church of Christ, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Hassie . DeLong Templeton and a native of Van Buren County. She was first married to B.H. Bouldin, who preceded her in death in 1980, and later to James L. Yates who survives. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son David Bouldin of McMinnville. She is also survived by a brother, Arzie C. Templeton of Bone Cave, step-sons Merle Yates of McMinnville and James C. Yates of Route 1, Rock Island, four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. In High Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday, J.L. YATES, Wilma Olean Templeton (1916-1986)Wilma Yates
Mrs. Wilma Olene Yates, 70-year-old resident of the Plainview community, died of an extended illness in River Park Hospital at 3 a.m. Friday. A native of Van Buren County and member of the Church of Christ, she was the wife of James Lee Yates and a daughter of the late Claude and Hassie Mae DeLong Templeton. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Merle Yates of McMinnville and Jimmy Yates of Plainview. She is also survived by a brother and sister, Arzie Cooper Templeton and Mrs. Velma Bouldin, both of Bone Cave, eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Clayton Gribble and Chuck Mullican conducted services in McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment was in Mt. View Cemetery on Highway 30.Southern Standard, McMinnville, TN. YOUNG, Len Olen (Sleepy)
Len Olen (Sleepy) Young, 66, of Sparta passed away Saturday, June 16, 2001. Young was born March 8, 1935, in Sparta, the son of Millo and Bessie Young. He was an antique dealer. Services were Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in the First Apostolic Church with burial in Young Cemetery. Reverend James McKinney, Adrian McFallin and Dewyan Bishop officiated. Young was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Brady and wife, Alena Rhea Hayes Young. Survivors include his wife, Era Mai Johnson Young of Sparta; two sons, Allen England of Smithville; Holsie Tate of MI; four daughters, Brenda Bishop of MI; Crestella Slone of Sparta; Rose Sthrom of MI; Crystal Pettit of Sparta; two sisters, Lucille Barnes of Sparta; Lois Winnett of Sparta; brother, Von Young of Sparta; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grand-children, and one great-great-grandchild.
