TALLENT, Alva Etheline Sims “Granny”  (1918-2001)

                Alva Etheline Sims “Granny” Tallent, 82, of Sparta passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001.  Tallent was born March 9, 1918, in White County, the daughter of Thomas Francis Sims and Rebecca Jane Green Sims. She worked in the garment industry and was a member of the Lighthouse of Mercy Full Gospel Church.  Services will be Friday, March 9, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Thurman Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Corinth Cemetery. Brother Tony Vinson and Brother Chris Hash will officiate.  Tallent was preceded in death by her husband, William Talmadge “Bill” Tallent.  Survivors include a son, Otis Lemar Tallent and wife Shirley Dukes Tallent of Sparta; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Howell and husband Gene of Sparta; Linda Faye Lafever and husband Jimmy of Sparta; sister, Jessie Madeline Sims of Chattanooga; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Ellen Tallent and fiance Daryl Rasmussen of Sparta; Terry Wayne Vinson and wife Guylene Vinson of Sparta; Melissia Carol Vinson Moore and husband Andrew of Morrison; Tony Lee Vinson and wife Crystal Shockley Vinson of OH; Mark Anthony Lafever and wife Tessie Brasel Lafever of Sparta; Marty Allen Lafever and wife Cindy Walker Lafever of Sparta; Christy Faye Lafever Flynn and husband Shawn of MS; 10 great-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.  Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Alex Templeton
     Charles Alex Templeton died suddenly Friday afternoon.  Survivors include wife Avo Templeton, Chattanooga; three sons, Robert, Wiley and Marshall Templeton; two daughters, Laura Gibson and Nellie Garrett, all of Chattanooga; two brothers, John Templeton of Spencer, TN and Elbert Templeton, Keener, AL; three sisters, Ida Dillard, Gadsen, AL, Mrs. Martin McCoy, Quebeck, TN.  Funeral Plans will be announced by the National Funeral Home.

TEMPLETON, Euline Hitchcock  (circa 1927-2001)

Euline Hitchcock Templeton, 74
            McMinnville resident and Van Buren County native Euline Hitchcock Templeton, 74, died April 5 at River Park Hospital after an extended illness.  A retired assembly worker with Powermatic and a member of McMinnville First Baptist Church, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Lois Hale Hitchcock; and was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Templeton in 1996; and brother, John Hitchcock.  She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Terry and Gayle Templeton of Germantown; daughters and sons-in-law, Retha and Steve Muncey of Morrison, Renee and Steve Basham of McMinnville; grandsons, Ryan Muncey of Morrison, Justin, Adam and Wesley Templeton of Germantown; grand- daughters, Shea Muncey of Morrison and Emily Templeton of Germantown; great-granddaughter, Hailey Muncey of Morrison; aunts, Bessye Dillon of McMinnville and Mary Etta Hale of Bone Cave; several nieces and nephews.  Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at High's Chapel with Nestor Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be held after 11 a.m. today and from 8 a.m. until time of services Saturday at High's.  High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

TEMPLETON, Matilda Ann Grissom  (1868-1954)

Mrs. Templeton's Rites Saturday
          Mrs. Matilda Ann (Aunt Tilda) Templeton, well known resident of Van Buren county, died at Faulkner Springs hospital, Thursday at 12:20 a.m., following an illness of 18 months.  She was 86 years of age.  Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at McElroy Church of Christ.  John W. High officiated and burial was in the McElroy cemetery.  Born July 30, 1868 in Van Buren county, Mrs. Templeton was a daughter of William Grissom and Jane Slatten Grissom and she was married to William Templeton February 16, 1890.  He died September 7, 1931.  Survivors include four sons, Claude and Cooper Templeton, Bone Cave, and Clyde and Charles Templeton, Gadsen, Ala.  Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

TEMPLETON, Sylvia Louise Hudson  (circa 1908-1999)

Louise Templeton, 91
              Walling resident and White County native Louise Templeton, 91, died March 24 at White County Hospital.  A homemaker, she was the daughter of Hayden and Nannie Slatten Hudson and was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Lee Templeton.  She is survived by two daughters, Marian Gooch of Walling and Jean Williams of McMinnville; three sons, Clifford Templeton of Sparta, John David and Thomas Templeton of Quebeck; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Thurman Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Jericho Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. tonight at Thurman Funeral Home in Sparta.  Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sylvia Louise Templeton, 91, Swindell Mill Road, Walling, Tenn., a homemaker, died Wednesday, White County Hospital. Cause not disclosed.   Services 1 p.m. tomorrow, Thurman Funeral Home.  Survivors: daughters, Marian Gooch, Walling, Jean Williams, McMinnville, Tenn.; sons, Clifford, Sparta, John, Thomas Templeton, both Quebeck, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

TEMPLETON, Virgil Homer  (1915-1985)

Mr. Templeton
        Virgil Homer Templeton, 70-year-old resident of 113 Orchard Lane, succumbed to a two-week illness in McMinnville Health Care Center at 9 a.m. Monday.  A native of Van Buren County and member of Smyrna Church of Christ, he was married to the former Kathleen Bouldin and a son of the late John and Parriet Curtis Templeton.  The retired factory worker was a veteran of World War II.  In addition to his widow, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Asa Ferrell and Mrs. Lonnie Milstead of McMinnville and Mrs. Don Pitts of Dallas, Texas.  He is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, Curtis of Spencer, Leslie and Clifford Templeton, Mrs. Eugene Bess, all of McMinnville, Mrs. Milton Mitchell of Cummingsville, and Mrs. Ruth Medlock of Murfreesboro.  Also surviving are six grandchildren, a great-grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.  Billy Reed and Tim Long will conduct services in High Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. Thursday.  Interment, millitary rites by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173, will be in Smyrna Cemetery.

THOMISON, Ida Grove  (circa -1971)


        Ida Thomison, 66-year-old widowed resident of the Shady Rest community, succumbed to an extended illness at River Park Hospital at 3 p.m. Monday. A native of Van Buren County and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the widow of Henry Thomison and a daughter of the late Dee and Lou Mayfield Grove. Survivors include two sons, Charles and Carl Thomison, of Vandalia and Dayton, Ohio, respectively; a daughter, Mrs. Rita Johnson, McMinnville; a brother, Clifton Grove, Rock Island; three sisters, Mrs. Parrett Moffitt, Rock Island and Mrs. Aaron Martin and Mrs. Avo Kell, both of McMinnville, as well as seven grandchildren. With Clayton Gribble, J.R. Boren and John W. High officiating, final rites were conducted at White Hill Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Wednesday, burial following in the cemetery there. High's, Inc., was in charge of the arrangements.

TURNER, Alma Simpson Johnson

                Alma Simpson Johnson Turner, 90, of Morrison passed away Saturday, June 16, 2001.  Turner was born March 26, 1911, in Warren County, the daughter of John H. Simpson and Lula Rhea Simpson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Morrison Church of Christ.  Services were Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in the Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home Chapel with burial Bascom Cemetery. Ken Willis and Kip Greene officiated.  Turner was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Turner and Noel Johnson; and step-daughter, Elizabeth Braxton.  Survivors include five step-daughters, Clata Groves of Rock Island; Dorthy Pirace of MS; Doris Wanamaker of McMinnville; Shirley Thomas of McMinnville; Bobbie Mayes of McMinnville; seven step-sons, Everett Turner of Manchester; William Turner of Morrison; Jimmy Turner of Morrison; Ike Turner of Morrison; Frank Turner of Morrison; Marion Turner of Morrison; Billy Johnson; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

TURNER, Michael Wayne  (1948-2001)

            Michael Wayne Turner, 52, of Murfreesboro passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2001.  Turner was born April 11, 1948, in Warren County, the son of Everett Lee Turner and Wavie Citt Turner. Turner served in the Navy and was a disabled veteran. He attended the Baptist Church and was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 513.  Graveside services were Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Jim Wright officiated.  Survivors include his father and mother, Everett and Wavie Turner of McMinnville; two sisters, Wanda Silver of OH; Patricia Goodman of Smithville; two brothers, Ricky Turner of McMinnville; Kerry Turner of McMinnville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
