Corpl. Hugh Harris Sr.

4th NC Regiment - Continental Army

Born:  Bet. 1755-1758 in Virginia

Died:  February 13, 1855, Broylesville, Washington Co., TN

Burial:  New Salem Church Cemetery, Limestone, Washington Co., TN

 

On May 20, 1776, Hugh enlisted in Orange Co., NC as Private in Capt. Roger Moore and William Goodman's Company under the command of General Nash for 3 years in the 4th NC Regiment.  The regiment was deployed to the Philadelphia Campaign and Hugh fought in the Battles of Brandywine Creek, Germantown, and Monmouth. His company camped at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777.  He was promoted to Corporal on November 10, 1778, and discharged in Paramus, NJ on May 20, 1779.

Hugh Harris Sr. is my 5G grandfather through his son Hugh Harris Jr., and his son Jason Laws Harris, and his son Nathan Dempsey Harris and his daughter, Bessie Marie Harris of the Flag Pond area of Unicoi Co., Tennessee.
