The New Hensley Cemetery (also known as W. Sherman
Lewis Cemetery) is located directly behind the Old Hensley Cemetery
of 19W.
The graveyard is enclosed with a chain link fence and located adjacent to the U-turn.
Maiden names are in parenthesis, as well as any
additional information to clarify relationships based on family
research. Actual information of each grave is in quotations.
This is an active cemetery and well taken care of.

OBITUARY: "Doris C. Whitson - ERWIN.
Doris C. Whitson, age 74, 1931 Chestoa Pike, Erwin, died unexpectedly Sunday,
September 13, 2009, at the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Whitson was a
lifelong Erwin resident and a daughter of the late Claude and Minnie Hensley
Chandler. She was a school teacher for twenty years in the Unicoi County
School System teaching at the former Sweetwater Elementary and Coffee Ridge
Elementary Schools before retiring in 1974 from Love Chapel Elementary School.
Mrs. Whitson received her B.A. Degree in Education from East Tennessee State
College. She was a member of Mountain Dale Freewill Baptist Church and a
former member of the Flag Pond Order of the Eastern Star #173, the Tennessee
Education Association and the National Education Association. Mrs. Whitson
enjoyed reading her Bible and working in her flowers. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, whom she
loved dearly, Lawrence Whitson on April 19, 2005, an infant daughter, Sherry
Lynn Whitson, a brother and sister-in-law, Boice and Betty Chandler, five
brothers-in-law, Franklin Hughes, Clayton, Niram, Howard and Max Whitson.
The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at 2:00
P.M. in Mountain Dale Freewill Baptist Church with the Reverend Tommy Hensley
officiating. Special music will be provided by Tommy Hensley, Steve and Sally
Price and David Higgins. Interment will follow in the Hensley Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the Robert
Ledford Funeral Home."

Chandler Nelson was a daughter of the late Parker and Mabel Foster Arrowood.
She died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Betty was
employed as a secretary with the Unicoi County Highway Department for the
past 13 years. Other than her mother, she was preceded in death by her
first husband, Frank Nelson; two sons, Robert Travis Chandler and Jason Todd
Chandler; her step-mother, Ruth Arrowood; two brother; Harley and Kevin

"SPIVEY
MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY, ERWIN - Wanda R. Foster, age 77, Spivey Mountain
Community, Erwin, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2015, at the Unicoi
County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit. She was a lifelong
resident of Erwin and a daughter of the late Ralph and Annie Harris Hensley.
Mrs. Foster was a former secretary at the Tennessee Department of Human
Services for twenty-five years. She was a member of Mountain Dale Freewill
Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, Wayne Foster on April 21, 1991 and her brother, Boyd Hensley.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories two sons, Michael Foster and wife,
Rhonda, Jason Foster and wife, Kristin all of Erwin; one daughter, Debbie
Jones and husband, Bobby, Nashville; one sister, Sonja Hoilman and husband,
A. J., Erwin; three grandchildren, Seth Foster, Dillon Foster and Emily
Foster all of Erwin; one sister-in-law, Susan Hensley, Erwin. Several nieces
and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends on Monday,
December 7, 2015, from 6:00 PM until the hour of service at the Robert
Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Rodney Deyton and Reverend Tommy
Hensley will officiate at the 8:00 PM funeral service. Music will be
provided by Inez Chandler. Serving as pallbearers will be Seth Foster,
Dillon Foster, Bobby Jones, Steve Hoilman, Greg Hoilman and Randy Coffie.
Committal service will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 11:00 AM
from the Hensley Cemetery, Spivey Mountain Community. Everyone is
asked to please assemble at the cemetery by 10:50 AM on Tuesday. " --Johnson

OBITUARY: "Don "Brushy" Lewis,
age 81, of Erwin, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September
16, 2021, after a brief illness at Johnson City Medical Center. His
parents were Sherman and Cindy Jane Lewis. He was born in Erwin, the
youngest of ten children. Don was a graduate of Unicoi County High
School, class of 1958. He was active in FFA and was the Senior Class
President. After High School, Don joined the United States Army Reserves
and from there began is 43 year career at Nuclear Fuel Services. Upon
his retirement from NFS, he served as Alderman and then Mayor for the
Town of Erwin for two consecutive terms, from 2004 until 2012. Don
has always been an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending UT football
games, immensely. He was a Little League Baseball Umpire for years and
coached the NFS Men's Softball team. He and his son, Joey, enjoyed
bowling together in a league for several years, as well. Don loved his
family and enjoyed trips to the beach, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and
any other destination Joey might plan for antique hunting. Don
gave his life to the Lord, over the phone, in his office at NFS.
Reverend Bob Coates led him in the Believer's Prayer. He was then a
dedicated member of Ninth Street Baptist Church, serving on various
committees and as an active deacon for several terms. In addition to his
parents, Don is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Joyce
C. Lewis; brothers, Everrett, Brownloe, Lloyd, Clifford, Jack and Danie,
as well as sisters, Mary Willis and Frankie Lewis. At this time,
the wishes are to protect friends and family, yet honor Don on
Wednesday, September 22, 2021 with a graveside funeral at the Hensley
Family Cemetery."

OBITUARY: "Joyce Ann
Lewis, age 82, of Erwin, closed her eyes on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at
Johnson City Medical Center and opened them in Heaven. She passed
quietly due to complications from a stroke. A native of Erwin, Joyce is
a daughter of the late Oscar Carlyle and Thelma Lee (Baxter) Clouse. She
attended Temple Hill Elementary School and Unicoi County High School.
She, however, graduated from South Lake High School in Michigan, while
living with her Aunt and family there. As a young woman, Mrs.
Lewis enjoyed traveling and living in the states of California,
Michigan, New York and New Jersey, where she worked in the food
industry. She married William D. “Brushy” Lewis and raised her family,
children Joey Lewis and Vicki Lewis Osborne, in Erwin, TN. Mrs.
Lewis was a faithful Christian and a member of Ninth Street Baptist
Church. She was a joy to those who knew her and enjoyed spending time
with her family, shopping, cooking and gardening. She was thrilled to be
“Grammy” to her only granddaughter, Laurel. She was always fun to talk
with and would share stories and reminisce of times with her loving
family. She had fond memories of her life as a child with her sisters,
Wilma and Ethel, and her extended family of aunts, cousins and special
childhood friends, Jean Miller and Gladys Baxter. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Lewis is preceded in death by her sisters, Wilma Scott and
Ethel Byrd; and her niece, Celeste Scott... In light of current
events, the family will attend a private funeral service at Valley
Funeral Home and a private graveside service in Hensley Family Cemetery,
Spivey Mountain Community. Reverend Carl Connelly will officiate.
