Chess Pie

11/2 cups sugar

1 Tablespoon corn meal

1 Tablespoon all purpose flour

3 whole eggs

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1 teaspoon vanilla 

1 teaspoon vinegar

4 Tablspoons milk

Mix all ingredients and pore into unbaked pie crust. Bake in a 350
degree oven until firm in middle. l hour  to l hour and l5 min.

This recipe I discovered in the Original Tennessee Homecoming Cookbook copyrght l985 by Rutledge Hill Press. I moved to TN from Michigan in l984 and purchased this cookbook in l990 shortly after marrying my second husband his favorite pie was chess of which was a new one on me.
The book said this recipe has been passed down through the Fitzgerald family of Williamson County for more that 100 years.  and was submitted by Chritine McKnight of Nashville.
