"Sour Soup"
Submitted by: Fred Smoot
"I found in a
book, "A Southern Woman's Story"...written by the lady who was in
charge of a Civil War hospital in Richmond....a recipe for "sour
soup"! The lady's name was Phoebe Yates Pember."
"You jist put a crock of buttermilk on the fire...and let it come to a
bile...then mix up the yellar of an egg...with some corn flour. ...then
punch off pieces of the dough and bile them with the soup...with lots
of salt and pepper."
