St Louis June 14th 1852

Friend Seymour
I am glad to inform you that I arrived here yesterday by Stage from St Charles. The reason that I came by Stage is that the Choleria is so bad on the river that it is not prudent to go on the Boats. I have just been to Baker & Cos where I found two boxes of Splints send by you and I have received the following letters from you. Namely April 11th - April 22nd - May 6 - May 21 - May 26.

I have received the letter directing to me at Nashville Tennessee with the enclosed papers which I return to you as it is not probable that I shall visit Tenn again soon. I did not stop at Paducah for the reason that the time I was passing there, the Town was all in flames & nearly one half of it was in ashes. I enclose you a Draft for Three Hundred Dollars which you please pass to my credit. You request me to keep the letter in which you requested me to have what cases I wanted fit___ up with glass Moteings [?] & Co [&c?]. I find I have that letter. it reads as follows. Fit up only that part of the cases that you design taking. If you can get rid of taking that stock in New York do you do it. probably it will sell in time at first cost but not more for S Coville & Co are selling at the price you gave. I have a large stock of cases n hand. I Shall do the best I can with them. I learn there is an opperators in all large Towns on the Mississippi above this. And perhaps I may conclude before I leave here to go up the River And see if I can dispose of the Stock. And at the same time do something in the way of disposing of the other Articles I have on hand. It is so very hot traveling about the Country at this time that it is impossible for me to do it, but by going up river as far as St Paul I shall get into healthy country and May be able to pay expenses. As I have written you before, I think it would be well for you to get a good Man to canvass Missouri, and as soon as possible.

If I conclude to go up the Mississippi I shall be some weeks alone. If I do not I shall return east by Chicago and will see about the Splints there. I will write again before I leave here.

Yours as ever
        Geo. Lockwood
