According to his granddaughter's UDC application, Whitley served 4 years in the army so he must have re-enlisted somewhere else.  After the war, he moved to Mississippi where he married and died in late 1800. He's buried in
De Soto Co, MS. However, the plantation his father owned was the Red Bud plantation just outside of Mason. Part of the old land is still operated under the name Red Bud Farm.
