Nathaniel "Cheer" Harvey Maclin Sr., son of Harvey Maclin and Laura Collier, was born March 27, 1895 in Keeling, TN. Harvey's mother was assumed to be Esther Maclin, born 1834, a slave. Esther was owned by Dr. James B. Maclin and his wife Lucy Taylor Maclin (previously married to Drury S. Taylor). Laura passed away Jan 11, 1917 and Harvey, May 24, 1927. Nathaniel's siblings were Jack, Reddy, Nunie, Flosie and Fannie.
Nathaniel served as a private in the National Army during World War I, The Great War, from June 20, 1918 to March 10, 1919. He was attached to Company B, 804th Pioneer Infantry. When Nathaniel returned from the war he married Gustava Amanda Whitmore, daughter of Allen Benjamin Harris (caucasian) and Amanda Whitmore. Amanda's parents are assumed to be Jim Whitmore (a mulatto), born 1841 in Fayttte County, TN and Phyllis Dodson. Jim was a slave of Major Edwin Whitmore of Dinwiddle County, Virginia and Phyllis a slave of Richard Rives also of Dinwiddle County.
Amanda passed away April 4, 1919.Nathaniel and Gustava married on November 2, 1919. Nathaniel was a farmer and horse and buggy rider, Gustava a housewife. The two had 13 children, Patricia, Viessa, Nathaniel Jr., Robert, James Clay, Adrene, Charles, Laura, Theopolis (Sonny), Lawrence Sr., Otha, Edna and Chester Sr.
In 1938 Nathaniel purchased 97.5 acres of land in Mason, TN in which to raise his family.Nathaniel passed away January 20, 1986 and his faithful wife followed shortly thereafter on August 18 of that very same year. Of the children, three have perished, Charles passed away shortly after birth, Patricia, July 15, 1963 and James Clay, Jun 23, 1997. And I am Lawrence Maclin Jr, the youngest of four children by Lawrence Sr. and Jessie Maclin (Mason).
