Note: My copy is very faded and difficult to read. The surname on this will is either Hellin or
Hellen.
In the name of God Amen: I Mary Hellen of Sumner County and State of Tennessee being weak
in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be God for the same do make and
publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following
That is to say
First
I give and bequeath to my daughter Sophia's (?) natural son commonly called James Hellen _ my
negro wench named Phebe and no more of my estate real or personal. I give and bequeath to my
son Jesse Hellen my negro wench named Beth and no more of my estate real or personal. I give
and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Walldrus/Walldrup my negroes Callen, Jacob, Dick and D___
and no more of my estate real or personal. Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint James
Winchester my Executor, and do hereby ___ that my said Executor would __ the ___ Legacies
hereby bequeathed delivered to the several Legacies agreeably to this my last will and testament
hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. In witness whereon I have hereunto set
my hand and seal the second day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred
and ninety eight.
Signed, sealed, published and ___ by the before named Mary Hellen to be her last will and
Testament in the presence of us, who have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of the
___.
