In the name of God amen.

I John Hassell, of the county of Sumner and State of Tennessee being of great age & infirm of body but still retaining my mental faculties so as to have a sound and disposing mind & memory and calling to mind the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof do make, publish and disclose this my last will and testament.

First of all I commend my soul to God that gave it and my body to the dirt from which it was taken, to be buried in a decent manner as my Executors hereafter named may think proper.

My Property I dispose of in the following manner to wit: First I give and bequeath unto my son Asa Hassell my negro man named M...Secondly I give and bequeath unto my son John Hassell my negro woman named Mary and her son named John and unto Ann Wormington my daughter I give and bequeath my negro girl named Lucy and I give and bequeath unto my son in law William King my negro boy named Allen and also one hundred dollars in cash to be paid him out of my property as this money arises, thereafter which is not willed or disposed of I give and bequeath unto my daughter Orpa Hardin my negro boy named Jordan. I also give and bequeath unto my son Asa Hassell in addition to what is before named my negro woman Lucy to nurse and attend on his mother Ann Hassell and at the death of his mother, Lucy is to be his property all of which property as herein before named I give to them and their heirs forever. It is also my will that my stock of horses, cattle sheep & hogs & my household furniture be sold by my Executors and to be equally divided between Asa Hassell, Jesse Hassell, Ann Wormington, William King & Orpa Hardin after paying William King one hundred dollars which I have herein before willed.

I hereby revoke and make void each and every will heretofore made by me. I hereby constitute & appoint Asa Hassell and William King Executors to this my last will & testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 24th of May in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & twenty five. Signed, Sealed & published and declared in our presence.
