I James Hartin Sumner County State of Tennessee being of _? and perfect mind and memory (unreadable on my copy, appears to be the date of the will. Shirley Wilson in her book Sumner County, Tennessee Will Abstracts 1788 - 1882 has the date as 6 Mar) . . . Lord one thousand & eight hundred & sixteen make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Jen_y Hartin all my land and plantation and all other
things belonging to it during her natural life or widowhood and then to be equally divided
between my two beloved sons Thomas Hartin and William Hartin _?. Also I give and bequeath
unto my _? son Joseph Hartin a fifty dollar horse. Also, to my two beloved sons Nathaniel Hartin
and Archibald Hartin a sixty dollar horse saddle and bridle each. _ Also the said Nathaniel &
Archibald Hartin to be at liberty at the age of eighteen to work for themselves if they think p___?.
Also to my beloved daughters Peggy Hartin and Mary Hartin a horse saddle and bridle, one
feather bed on cow and calf each and to have their maintenance off the plantation which while
single or till come of age. Also I hereby make and ordain my loving son John Hartin Executor of
this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I the said James Hartin have to this my last will
and testament set my hand and seal this day and year above written, signed, sealed published and
declared by this said James Hartin the Testor as his last will and testament in the presence of us
we were present at the time of signing and sealing
