In the name of God Amen. I James CHAPMAN of the State of Tennessee and County of Sumner being weak and sick in body, but in my sight, mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed by God for all men over to die do make ordain and constitute this my last will and testament and do hereby revoke, disavow (?) all former will and wills by me heretofore made. And First of all I give and bequeath my soul to God that first gave it to me, in hopes to receive the same again at the general resurrection (?) through the visits (?) of Jesus Christ, and as for my body I do allow it to be buried in a Christian manner, and as for such worldly goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and bequeath as follows, to wit:

First
I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Martha one hundred acres of land, it being the plantation on which I now live, and also I do give and bequeath to my beloved wife Martha all my household and kitchen furniture and all my stock of horses and cows and hogs and also my wagon and harnessing and all my farming tools, except such as shall be hereafter mentioned and otherwise appropriated; and also I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Martha one negro woman named Cate all which property she shall hold during the run (?) of her natural life. And at her decease I do allow the said property to be sold and equally divided between my sons Samuel James Benjamin and William and I do give and bequeath to my son Alexander one hundred acres of land it being a part of the tract on which I live to be taken (?) off the west end of said tract agreeable to a Bond (?) that I gave him for that purpose and also one hundred and fifty bushels of corn when he shall come to this country; and I do give and bequeath to my son John one horse to be worth fifty dollars--and I do give and bequeath to my daughter Patsey one horse to be worth fifty dollars and also one black heifer the two above mentioned horses to be provided as my executrix shall direct. And I do hereby appoint my wife Martha and my son Alexander and my trusty friend Alexander ANDERSON to be my executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof (?) I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal, this twenty fourth day of May and in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred
