State of Tennessee
Be it rembered that at the Court of Pleas and quarter sessions held for the County of Roane at the
Court House in Kingston on the third Monday of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand
Eight Hundred and Eleven. The last Will and Testament of James C,. Alderson was produced in
open Court for probate. Wher upon James Hotchsip and H.W Hotchsip subscribing ---- -----
thought made oath that they saw the said. James C. Alderson sign and have him publish and did
on the same to be his last Will and Testament and that he was at the time of publishing the ---- of
--- --- and perfect mind and mrmory to the best of their kmowledge and belief. Where upon the
said Will is ordered to be recordedand is in the words and figures following to wit. In the name of
God Amen. I James C. Alderson of the County of Sumner and the
State of Tennessee, being sick in body weak in (or, in perfect health of body but or of perfect
mind and memory. The --- be given unto God and calling to mind the mortality of my body and
knowing thqat it is appointed for all men and to die, do make and ordain this my last Will and
Testament, that is to say principally and first of all. I give and commission my soul unto the hands
of the almighty God that gave it and my body. I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent
burial at the discretion of my executors. Nothing --- ----- ---- --- at the general-------------. I shall
receive the same again by the Almighty power of God and as touching such Worldly estate when
with it hath pleased God to help me in this life. I give ------ and dispose of the same in the
following manner and form. I give and bequeath to Jane my beloved wife during her natural life
one negro woman by the name of Rose, one feather bed and furniture, one womans saddle and
bridle. It is my will and desire that the balance of my Negroes by name , Charles, Janice Peter
Judia, Susannah and Maria be kept together until my youngest daughter Jenny Stephenson arrive
to six years of age. In case one of my older daughters should marry, Sarah or Nancy, then for a
division to take place in the Negroes equally among all my children, Sarah, Nancy, Betty, Daniel,
Mary and Jenny Stephenson. All the -- ---- of my Negro woman Rose, also to go to my
children equally. All the rest of my movable property such as Cattle, Hogs and horses with all my
farming utensils and the household furniture to be sold and the money applied to pay off my
debts: and all just debts coming to my estate aldo to be applied to the same use. Lastly I
appoint and constitute John Polk and my wife Jane as my lawful executors: to this my last Will
and Testament, revoking all other Wills but this and this only. In -------- where of have --------
unto set my hand and seal this 27th day of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight
Hundred and Ten.

aforesaid and by John Persis, my deputy do certify the foregoing to be a true and perfect copy of
the last Will and Testament of James C Alderson together with with the certificate of the probate
though now recorded in my office. ------ ---- where of I have hereunto set my name and applied
my private seal having no ---- of office at ofice in Kringston, this 2nd day of May 1811 + 35 years
of American Independence
