In the name of the great first cause of all things, I John Erwin of Sumner County and State of Tennessee being in low state of health, though in perfect sound mind and memory, do constitute this as my last will and testament to wit;
I bequeath to my well beloved wife, Eliza all my real and personal property, during her natural life, and to lend it as she stand in need. I bequeath to my dau Polly, my negro girl Charlotte, with all her off springs. My will is that after the rest of the legatatees gets as much property as Polly got at her marriage it is to be equally divided amongst legatees, except the land - I will that my son Matthew my son Loch my son John my son Alfred my son Eli my son Franklin my son Abner and my son Jefferson gets the land equally divided amongst them. I will that my wife and my son William Loch Erwin has the right to dispose of my land at any time before her death if it would be any advantage to the legatees. And buy land where ever they think proper with the same money. I will that all my just debts be paid. I will that my beloved wife Eliza and my beloved son William Loch Erwin that they Execute this my last will and testament. Given under my hand signed sealed and declared this 14th day of May 1821.
