Note: The following is the will of Abram (Abraham) Hassell, 1762 - 1807, husband of Christian Spruell. Wording and spelling are as they appear in the will.
In the name of God amen. I Abraham Hassell of the State of Tennessee and County of Sumner
being afflicted in body but perfect in mind and memory do make this my last will & Testament as
follows:
Item. I give & bequeath to my beloved wife Christian Hassell one negro woman named Penny
and one featherbed & furniture during her natural life and at her decease to be equally divided
between my two children Jennett and Priscilla Hassell their heirs(?). I also tend to my said wife all
my property real & personal until my children Jennett & Priscilla Hassell may or shall marry &
need their portions, then one third part of my plantation & a third(?) part of all the rest of my
property during her widowhood including a third part of all my buildings.
Item. I give to my son Jennet Hassell all my lands & building two thirds at his marriage & the
other at the marriage or decease of my --?-- wife and one third part of all my other property to
him & his heirs forever and in case of the death of my said wife an equal between my two children
their heirs.
Item. I give to my daughter Priscilla Hassell one third part of my property land except at her
marriage & then an an equal division at the decease of marriage of my said wife. I constitute &
appoint John Mitchel Richard Strawther & Jesse Hassell to be executors to this my last will &
testament, witness my hand & seal this seventeenth day of March one thousand eight
hundred & seven.
