Addy, J. S. - Co. H, 46th Mississippi Cavalry. Enlisted in April 1862. Wounded in right hand by minie ball at Altoona, Ga., in Oct. 1864. Sent to hospital at Montgomery, Ala., then to Columbus, Ga. Retired from active d duty. Assigned to light duty. From Sumner County.

Allison, Wm. P. - Co. G, 3rd Tennessee Cavalry. Cut off from regiment while on detached service down the Cumberland River just before the battle of Nashville. Never able to get back to the regiment which had retreated with Hood's army to Alabama. Had been in battles at Harrisburg, Miss., and at Franklin, Tenn. One small flesh wound in face. Paroled at Memphis, May 20, 1865.

Anderson, James A. - Co. F, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 24, 1861. Then trans. to 8th Cavalry in place of Henry Osburn. Served under Forrest, Wheeler and Dibrell. Served on President Davis escort in his effort to escape. Paroled at Washington, Ga., May 10, 1865.

Anderson, Samuel R. - Major General of Tennessee State troops, May 5, 1861. Brigadier General in Confederate service Aug. 9, 1861. Commanding a Brigade composed of the 1st, 7th, and 14th regiments serving in the Cheat Mountain Campaign in Virginia. Was retired because of ill health. Re-commissioned Brigadier General, Nov. 4, 1864. Served with Generals Lee, Jackson, Magruder and Archer. Paroled at end of war. From Sumner County.

Anderson, T. B. - Co. C, 28th Tennessee Infantry. From Hendersonville. In battles at Shiloh, Vicksburg, Murfreesboro, Missionary Ridge, and Atlanta. Wounded in right foot on Peachtree St. in Atlanta, Ga., July 22, 1864. In hospital at Macon, Ga. Paroled at Augusta, Ga., in May 1865.

Anderson, Wm. A. - Co. D, 7th Virginia Cavalry. Trans. to French's Light Artillery Battery. Wounded at Ft. Harrison, Va., in June 1864, by a shell fragment in right side of head. Made 1st Sgt. Paroled April 9, 1865. From Sumner County.

Angel, L. W.- Co. G, 3rd Kentucky Mounted Infantry. Enlisted April 27, 1861. Shown present at battle at Tishimingo Creek, Miss. (Brice's Cross Roads). From Richland, (Portland), Sumner County.

Armistead, Lewis C. - Co. D, 4th Tennessee Infantry. Wounded at Shiloh, Tenn.; Perryville, Ky., and Murfreesboro, Tenn. Was 1st Sgt. From Sumner County.

Bates, W. H. - Co. K, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Captured at Ft. Donelson, Feb. 16, 1862. Exchanged. Captured at Atlanta, Ga., July 22, 1864. Escaped in Nashville on way to prison.

Beck, Jesse Z. - 1st Lt., Co. K, 4th (Eighth) Tennessee Cavalry. In battles at Parker's Cross Roads, Thompson's Station and Franklin. Wounded at Franklin in left shoulder by brick knocked from a wall by a cannon ball. Captured at Meredith's Mill on Calf Killer River. Was thrown from horse and right ankle broken Aug. 9, 1863. Sent to Johnson's Island, O., then to Ft. Delaware, Md. Paroled May 12, 1865. From Sumner County.

Bell, Tyree H. - Capt. of the 12th Tennessee Infantry. In battles of Belmont, Mo., and Shiloh, Tenn. In July 1862, made Colonel of regiment and led it in the Kentucky Campaign. Then made Brigadier General. Served with General Forrest in Cavalry. Lived on Station Camp Creek in Sumner County until Nov. 1875, then moved to Dyer County in West Tennessee.

Bennett, John W. - Co. K, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 18, 1861. In battles in Virginia at Seven Pines. Seven days battles before Richmond and Cedar Run. Discharged as a non-conscript, under age, Aug. 18, 1862. Enlisted in the 4th Tennessee Cavalry (McLemore's) in battle of Chickamauga, Ga. In Streight Raid into Alabama and around Nashville. Then served in Co. D, 9th Tennessee Cavalry. Paroled at Orange Court House, Va.

Bennett, William Jacob - Co. A, 10th Kentucky Cavalry. Was Capt. Captured at Salineville, O., July 26, 1863. Sent to Camp Chase, O., then to penitentiary at Springfield, O. Escaped from the Ohio penitentiary with Gen. Morgan. Served in Eastern Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky to end of war.

Bennett, Wm. Jordan - Co. F, 28th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Sept. 18, 1861. Discharged on disability at Vicksburg, Miss., in 1862. Enlisted in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry.

Blackwell, A. H. - Co. A, 8th Tennessee Infantry. From Trousdale County. Ruptured at Atlanta, Ga., by log rolling on him while building breastworks. Wounded in left leg and head at Franklin, Tenn. Wounded in right hand at Nashville. Paroled May I, 1865, at Greensboro, N. C.

Blackwell, John Y. - Co. A, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in May 1861. Wounded at Peachtree Creek near Atlanta, Ga., July 20, 1864, by minie ball just above left ankle shattering both bones. In hospital to close of war. Paroled from hospital at Cuthburt, Ga. On crutches fifteen years after the war. From Trousdale County, then Sumner.

Blakemore, H. A. - Co. C, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 11, 1861. From Sumner County. Detailed to Provost Marshall's office at Abbeville, Va., issuing rations. Shown on roll through Jan. 11, 1864. No record of surrender or parole.

Blankenship, J. J. - Co. G, 4th Tennessee Cavalry, (McLemore's). Enlisted in Dec. 1861. In bad health. Unable for active duty a lot of the time. Stayed with the regiment. Was call "Brave to Rashness." Paroled in 1865. From Sumner County.

Bowling, Allen A. - Co. I, 14th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 25, 1861. In battles at Cheat Mountain and at Seven Pines, Va. Discharged on disability from Pneumonia at Richmond, Va., July 23, 1862. From Sumner County.

Bradley, W. T. - Co. B, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 28, 1861. From Sumner County. Wounded in right arm and captured at Gettysburg, Pa., in Pickett's Charge. Sent to a prison hospital ship in New York Harbor. Exchanged. Wounded severely in head by minie ball at Petersburg, Va. Right eye shot out. Captured and paroled from hospital at Petersburg when Lee surrendered at Appamattox.

Brandon, Charles L. - Co. K, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 28, 1861. From Gallatin. Captured in Pickett's Charge Up Cemetery Hill at Gettysburg, Pa., July 3, 1863. Sent to Ft. Delaware, Md. Paroled April 18, 1865. Ordered released by President Lincoln.

Brasswell, A. Dallas - Co. C, 7th Kentucky Cavalry. Churchwell's Regiment. Enlisted in 1862. Thrown from horse, shoulder dislocated, collar bone broken. Captured at Livingston, Tenn., trying to get home after Gen. Morgan was killed at Greenville, Tenn. Sent to Camp Chase, O. Paroled June 10, 1865. Dates commands badly mixed. Several points in doubt. He states that he was in Churchwell's Regiment. The only Col. Churchwell was Colonel of the 34th Tennessee Infantry until re-organization. He then disappeared from the records. Could have enlisted in a Kentucky Cavalry command. Such command not found. From Sumner County.

Brooks, Chas G. - Co. B, 2nd or 6th Wheeler's Cavalry Enlisted just a boy in 1863. Captured by Gen. Payne's forces and kept in jail at Gallatin 5 weeks. Judge Berry of Gallatin interceded and got him out of jail on promising to go home and stay out of the army. Enlisted in Co. F, 4th Cavalry and was captured, in spring of 1864. Took the oath to keep from falling into the hands of Gen. Payne again. On detached service on Hood's Invasion of Tennessee. Fifty men under Capt. Rickman were to go in advance of the army, to north of Cumberland River. Crossed river 18 miles below Nashville. Went to old Camp Trousdale, Richland, now Portland. Disbanded. Went to Smith County. Was there during battle of Nashville. Rejoined army at Corinth, Miss. Given 15-day furlough. Captured while on furlough, near Ft. Donelson. Oath at Nashville in 1865.

Brown, J. W. - Co. M, 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. Captured in Dec. 1862. Exchanged in March 1863. Was made Captain on Gen. Morgan's Staff. Paroled in 1865. From Sumner County.

Brown, James David - Co. G 4th McLemore's Tennessee Cavalry. Enlisted in Oct. 1861. Taken sick on retreat from Murfreesboro to Chattanooga, 1862. Left at a private home near Chattanooga with W. M. Greer with him as nurse. Had Typhoid Pneumonia. Sick three weeks. Returned to command. Had chronic diarrhea for years after war. From Parham, Sumner County. White House Road.

Bunting, Robert F. - Chaplain in 8th Texas Cavalry. Paroled May 5, 1865. From Sumner County.

Burgess, J. M. Burnley, William D. - Co. B, 7th Kentucky Cavalry. From Hartsville. Had measles at Sparta, Tenn. in March 1863. Detailed to Burns Light Artillery Battery in 1863. Captured at Mt. Sterling, Ky., June 9, 1864. Sent to Rock Island, Ill. Paroled in March 1865, at Aikin's Landing on James River, Va.

Cantrell, J. H. - Co. D, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Captured at Ft. Donelson, Tenn., Feb. 16, 1862. Sent to Camp Butler, Ill. Exchanged in Sept. 1862. In battles at Ft. Donelson, Tenn.; Chickamauga, Ga.; Missionary Ridge, Tenn.; Reseca, Ga.; Jonesboro, Ga., and Bentonville, N. C. Wounded in right thigh, left leg below knee, left side under left arm and in right jaw. Became totally blind. From Mitchellville, Sumner County.

Chapman, William A. - Co. D, 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. Captured July 19, 1863, at Buffington's Island, O. Sent to Camp Morton, Ind., Camp Chase, O., and Camp Douglas, III. Paroled June 9, 1865. From Sumner County.

Clark, A. J. - Served in Hamilton's Cavalry Battalion. Discharged at Celina, Tenn., April 4, 1864. From Bethpage.

Clark, Henry- 2nd Corp., Co. K, 17th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted June 9, 1861. In battles -at Wildcat, Ky.; Fishing Creek, Ky.; Shiloh, Tenn.; Munfordville, Ky., and Perryville, Ky. Wounded at Fishing Creek, Ky., Jan. 19, 1862, by having ramrod from his musket shot through his right hand while loading musket. Injured at Tullahoma, Tenn., by cannon ball striking piece of timber, knocking it against inside of right leg below knee. In hospital at Loudon, Tennessee. Discharged on disability in 1863. Not able to get home until fall of 1864. From Sugar Grove, Sumner County, Tenn.

Cocke, Samuel F. - Co. K, 18th Tennessee Infantry, Dec. 2, 1861, at Bowling Green, Ky. Captured Nov. 25, 1863, at Missionary Ridge. Sent to Rock Island, Ill. Paroled March 11, 1865, to remain behind Union lines. From Sumner County.

Cocke, Thomas W. - Co. K, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Paroled in May 1865. Detailed as Brigade blacksmith. S. County.

Cocke, Thomas W. - Co. K, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Aug. 7, 1861. Detailed as Brigade Blacksmith. Paroled in May 1865. From Sumner County.

Coles, G. M. - Co. B, 4th Tennessee Cavalry (McLemore's). Enlisted at Smyrna, Tenn., after Gen. Bragg's Invasion of Kentucky. Thrown from horse at Atlanta, Ga., breaking left forearm and wrist. Refused to go to the hospital. With arm in a sling stayed with command. Was a member of bodyguard for Pres. Jefferson Davis in his effort to escape. Paroled at Washington, Ga., May 9, 1865. From Parham, Sumner County.

Corum, H. C. - Co. F, 28th Tennessee Infantry. Shown on roll through May 1864. Discharged on disability from Rheumatism. On crutches several months. From Sumner County.

Craig, E. T. - Served under Major Carmack buying horses. Then as Inspector at Ft. Donelson, then with General Tyree H. Bell under General Forrest. Sumner County.

Craig, William A. - Co. C, 2nd Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted at Edgefield Junction, May 1, 1861. Detailed as teamster. Pay stoppage of $3.00 for overpayment. Captured at Atlanta, Ga., July 19, 1864. Sent to Camp Douglas, Ill., then to Point Lookout, Md. Paroled June 4, 1865.

Crouch, Franklin Jackson - Enlisted in Co. A, 46th Tennessee Infantry at Paris, Tennessee. The regiment was surrendered at Tiptinville, Tenn., April 8, 1862. Sent to prison at Camp Douglas, Ill. Exchanged at Vicksburg, Miss., Sept. 23, 1862. Wounded by minie ball in upper arm, ball lodging behind shoulder blade, at Atlanta, Ga., July 28, 1864. Given sick furlough in Nov. 1864.

Cunningham, Timothy L. - Co. C, 2nd Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 6, 1861. Captured at Currie, Va., Feb. 13, 1862. Exchanged. Captured at Atlanta, Ga., July 19, 1864. Sent to Camp Douglas, Ill., then to Point Lookout, Md. Paroled June 10, 1865. Was 4th Sgt. From Sumner County. Two slight wounds.

Darwin, John W. - Co. G, 25th Tennessee Infantry. From Trousdale County, then Sumner. Enlisted Aug. 5, 1861, at age 17. In battles at Fishing Creek, Ky., and Farmington, Miss. Discharged as a non-conscript. Enlisted in 4th Tennessee Cavalry in which he was in battles at Chickamauga, Ga., and Saltville, Va. Wounded in leg and arm. Paroled at Washington, Ga., in 1865.

DeBow, A. B. - Co. E, 22nd Tennessee Cavalry. Trans. from Raum's Mississippi Cavalry. Special courier on Gen. Hardee's staff. In battles at Shiloh, Corinth, Murfreesboro, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta, Jonesboro, Perryville, Charleston, Kennesaw Mountain and Cheraw, S. C. Paroled at Raleigh, N. C., in 1865. From Trousdale County, then Sumner.

Devasher, A. L. - Co. L, 1st Kentucky Cavalry. From Portland. Enlisted Aug. 15, 1862. In battles at Perryville and Augusta, Ky. Present at Greenville, Tenn., when Gen. Morgan was killed. Very sick. Command left him.

Dice, John S. - Co. A, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Feb. 28, 1862. From Trousdale County. In battle at Perryville, Ky. Discharged on disability from cardiac asthma at Knoxville, Tennessee.

Dismukes, David J. - Co. B, 1st Tennessee Infantry (Field's). Was 3rd Lt. Captured in 1864. Escaped into Canada.

Dismukes, G. W. - Co. C, 21st Alabama Infantry. From Sumner County. Captured at Ft. Gaines, Ala. (Mobile), Aug. 8, 1864. Exchanged at Ships' Island, Miss., Jan. 4, 1865.

Dorris, James D. - Co. I, 14th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted rv1ay 25, 1861. Captured at Petersburg, Va., April 2, 1865. Sent to Point Lookout, Md. Paroled May 6, 1865. From Sumner County.

Duncan, J. D. - Co. F, 33rd Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Nov. 28, 1861. Killed at Chickamauga, Sept. 19, 1863. From Bethpage.

Dunham, Lewis - Co. C, 1st Infantry Battalion (Colm's). Enlisted Nov. 10, 1862, at Camp Wealley near Nashville, for two years or the duration. Deserted May 17, 1863. Returned to the regiment. Captured at Petersburg, Va., June 22, 1864. Sent to Alton, IL. Enlisted in the 5th U. S. Infantry. Captured by the Confederate at Egypt, Miss., Dec. 28, 1864. Perhaps saved by the disorganized condition of Gen. Hood's retreating army after the battle of Nashville.

Dunn, Allen S. H. - Co. E, 14th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 18, 1861, for one year. Re-enlisted for the duration. In battles from Manassas to Hatcher's Run, Va. Captured at Hatcher's Run, April 2, 1862. Paroled May 7, 1865. From Fountain Head.

Ferrill, L. S. - 1st Sgt., Co. K, 4th Tennessee Cavalry. Also, known as the 8th Tennessee Cavalry. Discharged at Vicksburg, Miss., June 1, 1863. From Sumner County.

Finn, Wm. Richard - Co. K, 22nd Infantry Battalion. Also, served in Co. E, 4th Tennessee Cavalry (Murray's) in which he enlisted Aug. 22 1862, at Dixon Springs. Then was in Co. K 4th Tennessee Cavalry as substitute for Joshua McCarver. Father of the above named Wm. Riley Finn. From Portland.

Finn, Wm. Riley - Co. A, 22nd Infantry Battalion. Prior service in command, not given. Then into Co. E, 4th Tennessee Cavalry (Murray's) and surrendered in Wheeler's Cavalry at Washington, Ga., in 1865. In battles at Murfreesboro, Perryville, Richmond, Saltville and Woodbury. Wounded at Murfreesboro, leg broken by minie ball. Disabled for six months. Wounded al Woodbury, Tenn., by saber cut on head. Captured twice but escaped each time. From Portland.

Fite, E. C. -Co. A, 1st Heavy Artillery. In battles at Belmont, Mo., Island No.10, in Mississippi River, and Ft. Pillow, before its evacuation in 1862, by Confederates. Then on duty at Vicksburg, Miss., 23 months. Captured at Vicksburg, July 4, 1863. Exchanged in Dec. 1863. Then assigned to duty at Ft. Morgan, (Mobile), Ala. Captured there in Aug. 1864. Sent to Johnson's Island, to New York Harbor, to Elmira, N. Y. Paroled in 1865, and sent to Richmond, Va. From Sumner County.

Ford, William C. - Co. E, 2nd Missouri Infantry. Captured at Vicksburg, Miss., July 4, 1863. Exchanged Aug. 18, 1863. Paroled in May 1865. Was made Capt. From Sumner County.

Frazer, John M. - Co. C, 6th Arkansas Infantry. Trans. to Swett's Arkansas Artillery Battery. In battles at Shiloh, Chickamauga and Jonesboro. Wounded in head at Shiloh. Wounded in elbow at Chickamauga and in left leg at Jonesboro. In hospital six weeks after the wound at Shiloh. From Hendersonville, Sumner County.

Gardner, John A. - Co. A, 10th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in Oct. 1861. Wounded in right hand by rifle ball. Lost use of two fingers. Was captured at Ft. Donelson. Exchanged. Captured in 1863. In prison at Nashville. Kept chained. Paroled on oath in March 1864. From Millersville. Had been discharged as a non-conscript in July 1862. Imprisioned after discharge.

Gloster, Arthur M.- 1st Lt., of Engineers. Designed the fortifications at Vicksburg, Miss. Captured there July 3, 1863. Exchanged in Nov. 1863. Paroled in 1865, as Capt. in the Engineers Corps. From Sumner County.

Grainger, Gervis D. - Co. I, 6th Kentucky Infantry. Enlisted at Franklin, Ky., Sept. 25, 1861. Wounded at Reseca, Ga. Shot in left knee. Wounded at Kennesaw Mountain, Ga. Knocked down by concussion from exploding shell, causing blindness and paralysis of right side.

Graves, Geo. Alfred - Co. H, 19th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted June 11, 1861, for one year. Re-enlisted May 10, 1862, at Corinth, Miss., for 2 years. Made 1st Sgt. Captured at Ooltewah, Tenn., Nov. 26, 1863, while serving on detached service. Exchanged. In hospital, Wayside No.9, at Richmond, Va. Had been in prison at Rock Island, IL. From Sumner County.

Gregory, W. J. - Co. K, 24th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Aug. 6, 1861. Paroled at Greensboro, N. C., May 1, 1865. From Dixon Springs, Trousdale County, then Sumner.

Guild, Walter Jo - Co. A, 4th Tennessee Cavalry (McLemore's). Captured in Logan County, Ky., June 26, 1863. Sent to Camp Chase, O., then to Camp Douglas, Ill. Paroled on oath Nov. 12, 1864.

Hayes, John - Co. A, 10th Tennessee Infantry. Captured at Ft. Donelson, Tenn., Feb. 16, 1862. Sent to Camp Butler, Ill. Exchanged in Sept. 1862. Had been wounded at Ft. Donelson. From Sumner County.

Haynes, W. A. - Co. C, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Escaped surrender at Ft. Donelson. Was in the battle at Hartsville on Dec. 7, 1862, where he was wounded. No record as to why he was at this battle. Paroled on oath in March 1865, as 1st Lt. From Sumner County.

Hendall, Frank - Co. H, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in May 1861. Wounded at Perryville, Ky. Shot through neck and shoulder, Oct. 8, 1862. Wounded at Atlanta, Ga., July 20, 1864, in left leg. Partial loss of leg. From Sumner County.

Henley, Peter B. - Co. B, 23rd Virginia Infantry. Enlisted May 16, 1861. In battles at Kernstown, Va., Cedar Mountain, Va., Port Republic, Va. Seven days battles before Richmond, Sharpsburg, Md.; Fredericksburg, Va.; Chancellorsville, Va., and Weldon Railroad. Wounded once in head. Paroled at Appamattox Court House, Va., April 9, 1865.

Hester, R. M. - Co. A, trans. to Co. D, 14th Battalion, Ala. Cavalry. Later known as Malone's Ala. Cavalry. In battles and skirmishes at Corinth, Miss., Johnsonville, Tenn., then on Gen. Lyon's raid in 1864. At Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Hartford, Litchfield and Elizabethtown, Ky. Cut off from command. Got back to Sumner County Dec. 24, 1864. Then with Ellis Harper. Paroled 6 miles north of Gallatin, May 9, 1865.

Higgason, Thos. H. - Co. K, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Aug. 20, 1861. Wounded at Chickamauga, Ga., Sept. 19, 1863, in both thighs by minie ball. In hospital at Griffin, Ga., 2 months. Captured at Atlanta, Ga., July 22, 1864. Sent to Camp Chase, O. Paroled May 10, 1865.

Hinsley, W. M. - Co. A, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in May 1861. Had measles at Camp Trousdale in 1861. Blinded in left eye by piece of gun cap. Discharged on disability in 1863. From Portland, Sumner County.

Honeycutt, James A. - 8th Kentucky Mounted Infantry. Forest's Division. Cut off from command in Hart County, Ky., in late 1864, while on a foraging detail. Never able to get back to regiment. This was on the raid by Gen. H. B. Lyon, just prior to the battle of Nashville. This raid was in retaliation for the wanton destruction of property in the Confederate States by Union forces. The expedition crossed Tennessee, in o Kentucky, destroying property, burning public buildings, etc., among them being Court Houses at Princeton, Ky., and Celina, Tennessee. Crossed Tennessee again, made their way into Alabama, where thinking themselves perfectly safe, and being completely worn out, they were surprised and almost the entire command captured. From Fountain Head, Sumner County.

Hornbuckle, James W. - Enlisted Jan. 9, 1861, in Co. H, 49th Alabama Infantry. In battles at Shiloh, Tenn.; Vicksburg, Miss.; Baton Rouge, La.; Corinth, Miss., and Port Hudson, La., where he was captured July 12, 1864. Paroled and came home. From Portland.

James, H. P. - Co. B, 41st Georgia Infantry. Discharged on disability at Tupelo, Miss., in Aug. 1862. Had gone to Georgia to enlist in this regiment. From Sumner County.

Jones, T. A. - Co. I, 6th Kentucky Infantry. Enlisted in 1861. Comrade stumbled against him on a night march, very stormy and dark. Fell over cliff on Rocky Face Ridge in Ga. Ankle dislocated, muscles and ligaments torn. Disabled for several months. Paroled at Washington, Ga., in May 1865. From Sumner County.

Karr, R. W. - From Westmoreland, Sumner County. Enlisted in the 6th Kentucky Cavalry. Had measles at Bowling Green, Ky. Soon after a forced march from Bowling Green to Nashville in Feb. 1862, caused Rheumatism. Bruised right foot at Atlanta, Ga. Abscessed. In hospital 9 months. Discharged on disability.

King, W. B. - Co. C, 6th Arkansas Infantry. From South Tunnel. Enlisted in June 1862. Under Gen. Price. Struck himself on left kneecap with hatchet at Little Rock, Ark., building feed racks for mules. In service to end of war. Was captured and exchanged. Place and date not given.

Lackey, S. E. - Co. B, 6th Kentucky Cavalry. Captured July 20, 1863. Escaped. Sent to Canada as a Secret Operative. Took part in the Raid on St. Albans, Vt., Oct. 18, 1864, led by Bennett H. Young. Was never discharged or paroled. From Gallatin.

Lawrence, Robt. F. - Co. K, 4th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 15, 1861. In battles at Perryville, Ky.; Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Missionary Ridge, Reseca, Ga.; Dalton, Ga.; Atlanta, Ga.; Franklin, Tenn., and Nashville, Tenn., where he was captured Dec. 16, 1864, and sent to Point Lookout, Md. Paroled June 28, 1865. From Gallatin.

Lee, Milton B. - Co. B, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Officially 13th. Enlisted in spring of 1863. In battles at Celina, Kettle Creek and Sparta, Tenn. Oath at Nashville, Jan. 26, 1864. Had $180 in Confederate money. Wife had $75 sewn into home-made Linsey dress. Yankee soldiers cut it out after running him away from home, shooting at him several times as he ran. Soldiers made wife light candles for them to see to reload their guns. From Sumner County.

Lewis, David - Co. G, 16th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 21, 1861. From Fountain Head. In hospital at White Sulphur Springs, Va., with Rheumatism in 1861. Discharged on disability and expiration of enlistment at Tupelo, Miss., in July 1863. Enlisted in Co. C, 1st Infantry Battalion (Colmn's). Captured. Sent to New Orleans, La. Prison guard wounded him with a bayonet just above right knee joint.

Marshall, H. H. - Co. G, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 11, 1861. Captured at Ft. Donelson. Exchanged. Wounded on picket duty on Peachtree St. in Atlanta, Ga., Aug. 6, 1864. Minie ball hit something and made to ricochet striking thigh between hip and knee cutting both leaders and arteries, causing severe loss of blood, for ten days. Paroled at end of war. Had chronic diarrhea while in prison at Camp Butler, IL. Was chief musician in regimental band. From Sumner County. P.O., Goodlettsville, Tenn.

Marshall, Wm. H. - Co. G, 18th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May II, 1861. From Sumner County. Captured at Ft. Donelson. Exchanged. Wounded at Chickamauga, Ga., Sept. 20, 1863. Left arm broken by minie ball. Ball left in, lodged between bones of lower arm. Pieces of bone worked out of arm. In hospital 4 months. Rejoined regiment at Dalton, Ga. Captured on Peachtree Creek, near Atlana, July 20, 1864. Sent to Camp Douglass, Ill. Guard stuck bayonet into left hip in attempt to escape on way to prison. Paroled on oath at Camp Douglass one month before end of war. Had chronic diarrhea.

Mathis, John A. - Co. G, 2nd Kentucky Cavalry. Enlisted Aug. 25, 1862. From Sumner County. Wounded at Ragan's Hill, near Providence or Clarksville, Tenn. Shot in face, lost eye and caused deafness. Captured there in March 1865.

McClain, John Bell - Co. I, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Sgt. in Co. F, 45th Tennessee Infantry. Trans. to Co. I, Nov. 18, 1862. Deserted Feb. 5, 1865, with gun and accouterments. Went within enemy lines. Took the oath, to be released at Nashville. Was brigade teamster in Hill's Brigade before trans. from Trousdale County.

McColgan, J. Tallerand - Enlisted May 29, 1861, in Co. E, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Discharged on disability in Virginia, Aug. 6, 1861. Enlisted in the 28th Tennessee Infantry. In battles at Fishing Creek and Shiloh, while in this regiment. Discharged in 1862, at the re-organization of the regiment. Enlisted in the 14th Kentucky Cavalry and was captured at Buffington's Island, O., July 19, 1863. Sent to Camp Douglas, Ill., then to Point Lookout, Md. Paroled. Took the oath several years after the war to establish citizenship when elected Magistrate.

McCoy, Charles W. - Co. C, 6th Alabama Infantry. Enlisted Sept. 1861. Wounded at Sharpsburg, Md., Sept. 17, 1862. Was from Sumner County.

McKoin, John N. - Co. E, 1st Kentucky Cavalry. Wounded at Hughes' Bridge. Was made Captain. From Sumner County.

Miles, John - Co. H, 38th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in 1862. Ruptured unloading flour from a steamboat at Hiawasse, Tenn., near Savannah. In hospital two months Captured at Murfreesboro in Dec. 1864, when Gen. Hood sent a detachment to capture Murfreesboro on his invasion of Tennessee. From Gallatin.

Morris, T. A. - Co. B, 18th Virginia Infantry. Captured at Saylor's Run, Va. Paroled on oath July 4, 1864.

Moye, Henry W. - Co. C, Malone's Cavalry Battalion of Gen. Hylon B. Lyon's Kentucky Cavalry. In battles at Hopkinsville and Elizabethtown, Ky. Slightly wounded at Hopkinsville in back of head. Captured. Sent to Louisville and City Point, Va. Exchanged at City Point, Va., in May 1864. All of above is his personal statement in applying for pension. From Rock Bridge, Sumner County. Served with Ellis Harpers Guerillas. No official record found. Paroled at Gallatin May 9, 1865.

Myers, Thomas P. - Co. D, 28th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Sept. 17, 1861. In battles at Fishing Creek, Ky.; Shiloh, Tenn.; Vicksburg, Miss.; Missionary Ridge, Atlanta, Ga., ; Franklin, Tenn., and Nashville. Captured at Nashville, Dec. 16, 1864. Sent to Camp Douglas, Ill. Paroled June 19, 1865.

Nuller, Wm. Henderson - Co. C, 48th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Nov. 17, 1862. Had "Yellow Ganders" and a cough. Told by Capt. Carlos C. Harris to go home. Never discharged. Never paroled. Just went home. From Westmoreland, Sumner County.

Parks, J. R. - Co. E, 25th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted July 25, 1861. From Sumner County. In battles at Fishing Creek, Ky.; Perryville, Ky., and Murfreesboro, Tenn. Discharged as a non-conscript Dec. 12, 1862, under 18 years of age. Thigh broken at Beech Grove, Tennessee after discharge. Crippled for life. Under the conscript law, service was compulsory for 30 days after discharge if under age.

Pillow, John A. - Co. G, 13th Arkansas Infantry. In battles at Belmont, Mo.; Shiloh, Tenn.; Corinth, Miss.; Perryville, Ky.; Richmond, Ky., and Murfreesboro, where he was wounded in right hip by fall of horse. In hospital at Ringgold, Ga. Went home. Captured. Sent to Cairo, Ill., on way to prison. Took the oath in 1864.

Pool, John W. - Co. F, 25th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted Aug. 10, 1861. From Worsham, Sumner County. Wounded in left foot at Murfreesboro, Dec. 31, 1862. Sent home as unfit for duty. Enlisted in Baxter Smith's 8th Tennessee Cavalry. Paroled at Charlotte, N. C., in 1865.

Ramer, John N. - Co. K, 55th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted at Camp Trousdale, near Portland, Dec. 27, 1861. Wounded at Shiloh, Tenn. A cannon ball struck tree. Slab struck him in back. Discharged on disability at Corinth, Miss., May 22, 1862.

Ransom, Wade H. - Co. G, 8th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 17, 1861. From Perdue, P.O., Sumner County. Deserted May 5, 1862. Rejoined command. In battles at Bull Run, Va.; Shiloh, Tenn.; Perryville, Ky., and Murfreesboro, Tenn. Trans. to 83rd Battalion Tennessee Infantry at Shelbyville, Tenn., April 26, 1863. Captured. Sent to Camp Douglass, Ill.

Read, William B. - Co. I, 9th Tennessee Cavalry. Enlisted in spring of 1862. From Sumner County. This company was recruited as McCann's Battalion, later becoming companies H and I in the 9th Tennessee Cavalry. Was captured at Buffington's Island, O., July 19, 1863. Sent to Camp Douglas, IL. Paroled in June 1865.

Sanders, Norvel D. - Co. C, 18th Mississippi Infantry. From Sumner County. Wounded at Leesburg, Va., Oct. 21, 1861. Has to walk with crutch and stick ever since. Wounded in left ankle.

Satterwhite, W. H. B. - Co. K, 55th North Carolina Infantry. From Sumner County. Was 5th Sgt. Wounded in hip at Wilderness, Va. Hip partly paralyzed. Paroled at Greensboro, N. C.

Seay, Benjamin - Co. A, 57th Virginia Infantry. Enlisted May 28, 1861. In hospital at Richmond, Va., five months from exposure in swamps near Richmond. Lost an eye from the exposure. Paroled April 11, 1865. From Willard in Trousdale County, then Sumner.

Schluter, G. W. - Co. B, 1st Texas Rangers. Paroled at Shreveport, La., June 21, 1865. From Sumner County.

Shannon, Isaac N. - Co. E, 9th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted in May 1861. Wounded in stomach and collarbone broken at Shiloh. Wounded in right knee at Perryville, Ky., and a bullet passed through his hat. Wounded in foot at Jonesboro, Ga. Shocked by shell concussion at Franklin. Was detailed as sharpshooter with a Whitworth Rifle. Lived in Sumner County.

Shute, W. W. - Co. A, 20th Tennessee Infantry. 2nd Sgt., 2nd Lt., 1st Lt. In all battles from Fishing Creek, Ky. to Bentonville, N. C. Struck by bullets several times but no severe wound. Paroled at Greensboro, N. C., May 1, 1865. From Sumner County.

Smith, John W. - Co. I, 2nd Kentucky Infantry. Wounded at Murfreesboro, in left arm near shoulder. Sent to hospital at Chattanooga, then to Catoosa Springs, Ga., then to Augusta, Ga. On detached service to end of war. Arm perished, shoulder stiff.

Smith, Rufus - Co. C, 4th Cavalry Battalion, afterwards Consolidated with the 5th Battalion to form Ashby's 2nd Tennessee Cavalry. Wounded at Dalton, Ga., and at Franklin Tenn. Paroled May 12, 1865. From Sumner County.

Smith, William B. - Co. B, 45th Tennessee Infantry. Was 2nd Lt. Wounded at Shiloh in left leg below knee. Was left sick at Tullahoma when Bragg retreated to Chattanooga in 1863. Never rejoined regiment. From Bethpage.

Smithson, J. H. - Co. D, 20th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted July 24, 1861. In battles at Fishing Creek, Ky.; Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Dalton, Ga; Atlanta, Ga; Jonesboro, Ga., and Triune, Tenn., on approach to Franklin. Wounded in thigh and shoulder at Triune. Marked as deserter. This often happened on Confederate records at roll cal. Went home and was never able to rejoin command.Captured at home by U S forces. Released on oath at Nashville, Jan. 10, 1865. From Bethpage.

Tittle, George W. - Enlisted in fall of 1861, for six months in Georgia. Then enlisted in Kain's Light Artillery Battery. Trans. to Co. A, 60th Tennessee Mounted Infantry on Sept. 15, 1862. Captured on Big Black River in Miss., May 17, 1863. Sent to Memphis, Tenn., then to Ft. Delaware, Md., Point Lookout, Md. Paroled on oath at Richmond, Va. From Bethpage, Sumner County, Tenn.

Trigg, S. C. - Co. C, 3rd Missouri Infantry. Wounded at Elkhorn Tavern, Ark. (Pea Ridge), Vicksburg and Port Hudson, La.

Vinson, Thos. S. - St. Mary's Commoners. Carney's Artillery. In battles at Ft. Jackson, La.; Franklin, La.; Mansfield, La.; Pleasant Hill, La.; Mansura, La., and Yellow Bayou, La., and with Union gunboats of the Red River in La. In hospital two days only, Febris-Intermittant, March 21, 1864. Captured at Ft. Jackson. Exchanged in three months. Discharged at Navaho, Texas, in May 1865. Had started to Mexico. From Sumner County.

Williams, Henry Thos. - Sgt., K, 7th Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 20, 1861. In battles at Seven Pines, Harpers Ferry, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and Hatcher's Run. Captured in Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, Pa., July 3, 1863. Sent to Ft Delaware, Md. Exchanged. Captured at Hatcher's Run, Va., April 2, 1865. Sent to Ft. Delaware, then to Point Lookout, Md. Paroled June 21, 1865.

Womach, William D. - Co. G, 35th Tennessee Infantry, also known as 5th Regiment Provisional Army of Tennessee. Enlisted at 18 years old, Sept. 6, 1861, at Camp Smart, near McMinnville for 12 months. Re-enlisted for the duration. Wounded at Shiloh, April 6, 1862, in left hand and in forehead. Minie ball ranged downward destroying left eye, fracturing skull and breaking left jaw. Discharged on disability from wounds Jan. 23, 1863, at Tullahoma, Tenn. Came home. Captured by Union forces. Refused to take the oath and was sent to Rock Island, Ill., then to Camp Chase, O., and Point Lookout, Md. Was from Sumner County, Post Office Number One, Tenn.

Wright, James C. - Co. C, 2nd Tennessee Infantry. Enlisted May 1, 1861, at Edgefield Junction, north Nashville for two years. Age 18. Reenlisted for the duration. Due $50 bounty for re-enlisting. Court martialed for one month's pay. Deserted at Tullahoma, April 15, 1863. From Sumner County.

Young, Wright - Co. B, 4th Tennessee Cavalry (McLemore's). Enlisted Nov. 28, 1861, at Camp Cheatham, Robertson County, Tenn. Captured at Rock House, Sumner County, Tenn., in April 1863. Sent to City Point, Va. Exchanged. Went home. Captured by Union forces and kept in prison at Louisville and Gallatin to end of war. Had been in battles at Richmond, Ky., and Perryville, Ky. From Sumner County.
